About The Position

The Level 2 Cable Technician is an intermediate-level technician responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting copper and fiber-optic cabling systems in commercial, industrial, and data center environments. This role requires strong hands-on fiber expertise, the ability to work independently, and adherence to industry standards, safety practices, and project documentation requirements.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of experience in structured cabling with hands‑on fiber optic work
  • Proven experience with fiber termination, splicing, and testing
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, fiber schematics, and riser diagrams
  • Familiarity with data center, carrier, or enterprise network environments
  • Experience using fusion splicers, cleavers, OTDRs, power meters, and certification testers
  • Proficient with hand tools, ladders, lifts, and cable‑pulling equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable working in ceilings, raised floors, and confined spaces
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, or on call as required
  • Fiber Optic, cat5, Cat6, Rack and stack, Punchdown, Switches, patch panels, Troubleshooting, Terminations, Blueprints, data center construction, Fluke Testing, Fiber Splicing, Clean Room, TIA/EIA, BICSI
  • Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship

Responsibilities

  • Install, route, secure, and label structured cabling systems including: Copper: Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A; Fiber: Single-mode (OS2) and Multi-mode (OM3/OM4)
  • Perform fiber termination using mechanical, fusion splice, and pre-terminated solutions
  • Install and dress fiber enclosures, splice trays, patch panels, cassettes, and LIUs
  • Build out and cable equipment racks, cabinets, ladder racks, and pathway systems
  • Maintain proper bend radius, cable management, and grounding standards
  • Test and certify fiber-optic links using: Light source and power meter, OTDR, Fiber inspection scopes
  • Perform fiber continuity, polarity, loss, and reflectance testing
  • Troubleshoot fiber faults including high loss, breaks, dirty end faces, and connector issues
  • Clean and inspect all fiber connections per best practices
  • Test and certify copper cabling using approved certification tools
  • Identify, diagnose, and repair cabling faults, terminations, and pathway issues
  • Label cables and ports according to project standards
  • Document fiber strands, patching, test results, and as-built drawings
  • Ensure all work complies with TIA/EIA, BICSI, and customer specifications
  • Work independently or alongside Level 1 technicians and project leads
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior technicians
  • Support network cutovers, data center migrations, and maintenance windows
