About The Position

The Cable Splicer is a safety-focused professional with the ability to construct and repair electrical underground systems. You will work on energized and de-energized systems and may be required to travel to different job sites, including out-of-state locations, as operational and customer needs dictate. You will report to the Foreman. This role involves performing new construction, maintenance, and repair of underground new work systems while prioritizing safety. You will also lead crew members in the absence of the Employee in Charge, conduct safety briefings, and train apprentices. The position requires comprehensive knowledge of underground services, infrastructure, duct banks, tagging procedures, grounding, and induced voltage on energized and de-energized lines using proper tools and test equipment. You will work in confined spaces and in proximity to energized equipment, operating heavy machinery such as backhoes, bucket trucks, digger trucks, and mini excavators. The role demands working outdoors in varying environmental conditions and being available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotations. Performing live-line work using approved techniques is also a key aspect of the job.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of recent underground experience.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Willing to travel long distances on short notice.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
  • Willing to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
  • Talk, listen and use hand signals to communicate.
  • Stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle objects, operate tools or controls; reach with hands and arms.

Responsibilities

  • Perform new construction, maintain and repair energized and de-energized underground new work systems while putting safety first.
  • Lead crew members in the absence of the Employee in Charge and conduct pre-job and tailgate safety briefings.
  • Train and mentor apprentices and groundmen.
  • Install and repair underground power, conductors and related hardware.
  • Work in confined spaces, and in proximity to energized equipment.
  • Operate a backhoe, bucket trucks and digger trucks, mini excavator.
  • Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
  • Be available to work outages, storms, emergencies including on call rotation.
  • Perform live-line work using approved gloving and hot-stick techniques of energized lines.
  • Follow all safety protocols including PPE use and possess a comprehensive understanding of insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential.
