About The Position

The Cable Assembly Drafter is responsible for preparing layouts, assembly and detail drawings for fiber optic cable assemblies, working closely with component engineering. This role involves preparing layouts, assembly, and detail drawings for fiber optic cable assemblies based on inputs from Sales/customer, updating drawings per customer’s request (As-built and Engineering change notices), and developing detailed section views for connector/component assemblies and cable transitions. The drafter will analyze various design requirements and recommend possible solutions or alternate constructions, verify that cable assembly parts are set up in the company ERP system, and route and ensure drawings are signed off and submitted for final release. Additionally, the role ensures cable assembly cycle times are met or improved and provides assembly instructions for connector/component assemblies and cable transitions.

Requirements

  • Ability to read (write and speak in English) and interpret assembly drawings/specifications from internal and external sources.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blue prints.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD/Visio, Solidworks (preferred) or equivalent 3D modeling software.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Possess good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Liaison with engineering/sales/manufacturing personnel
  • Able to move from design concept to finished design, including layouts and tolerance valuations and detail drawings.
  • Ability to learn and execute established procedures and programs
  • Complete all applicable reports and required project documentation
  • Able to follow established procedures to complete required cable assembly designs
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to satisfy AFSI ITAR requirements
