About The Position

Under direction, the purpose of the position is to perform highly skilled trades work related to cabinet making tasks and projects. Employees in this classification are responsible for performing design, layout, building, installation and repair of all types of cabinetry in accordance with established project objectives. Position functions in a lead capacity for complex and expansive projects requiring trades work teams, and applies expert knowledge and technical support accordingly. Work requires advanced technical trade skills and physical agility to successfully perform the work. Performs related work as directed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Supplemented by six (6) years of progressively skilled and knowledgeable experience in carpentry work
  • Two (2) of which shall be at the level of skilled cabinet maker
  • Demonstrating mastery in all aspects of wood working, to include angled and radius carpentry
  • Demonstrating ability to design and build custom furniture according to client specifications
  • Requires fork lift operating certification
  • Requires training in use of powder charged fasteners
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license class D

Responsibilities

  • Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
  • Receives and reviews work orders and/or cabinetry requests for the purpose of determining materials requirements.
  • Functions in a lead capacity or project coordinator capacity for complex and/or expansive cabinetry projects requiring trades work teams; applies expert knowledge and technical support accordingly.
  • Performs field activities in visiting project sites for the purpose of obtaining dimensions, measurements, project layout and other pertinent information.
  • Prepares materials and supplies cost estimates, and calculates labor requirements; prepares materials and supplies orders and submits such for processing.
  • Plans project task and completion schedules, and coordinates installation and/or repair activities with site personnel.
  • Designs and/or reviews drawings, blue prints, sketches and/or related specifications outlining project tasks and sequencing.
  • Builds, installs, and/or repairs various standard and custom cabinetry and furniture components, i.e., tables, cabinets, shelving, counter tops, doors.
  • Works with various mediums in construction and repair activities, as applicable to the assigned project, i.e., laminates, wood stains and finishers, lacquers.
  • Maintains safe and effective operating conditions of shop equipment; operates such in accordance with established safe operating principles and procedures.
  • Reviews and/or maintains various documentation concerning project activities, i.e., billing invoices, projects design materials, maintenance work orders, requisition records, cost estimates.
  • Responds to and takes appropriate actions in the event of emergency or critical incidents, i.e., fires, flooding, hurricanes.
  • Maintains cleanliness and order of shop and work areas.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.
  • Performs related duties as directed.
