This position performs clinical lab testing and/or other scientific examinations. The role involves independently performing moderate and somewhat complex clinical tests, applying technical principles and techniques of medical technology. It requires prompt and accurate performance of tests with appropriate documentation and notification of abnormal results. The technologist will also prepare and test new reagents or controls, perform test calibrations and run Quality Control material, and determine the acceptability of specimens for testing. Calculating results, entering data, and monitoring computer review reports for accuracy are key duties. The role also involves evaluating the acceptability of routine analysis before releasing patient reports, taking appropriate action for critical values, and performing preventative maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment. Evaluating instrument performance, performing linearity, accuracy, and precision checks, and evaluating Quality Control results are also essential. The technologist will report shifts or trends to a higher-level tech or supervisor, perform and record proficiency testing, and demonstrate the ability to detect and correct technical and operational problems. Monitoring reagent and supply levels, participating in staff and Quality Improvement meetings, and maintaining professional growth through continuing education are expected. The role may require performing duties of a Clinical Limited License Tech II for competency establishment and to cover absences. Direct supervision of unlicensed staff, training staff in procedures, and answering phones are also part of the responsibilities. Maintaining confidentiality, ensuring laboratory neatness, and complying with health and safety policies, including the use of personal protective equipment, are mandatory. Other duties as assigned may be required.
