Gensco currently has an amazing opportunity available to join our Purchasing Team at our Corporate Office in Tacoma, WA as a Buyer! Buyer 1 is responsible for performing a full range of purchasing and inventory responsibilities as well as attaining company customer service goals, Supplier relations goals, branch inventory and efficiency goals.

Requirements

  • AA degree required
  • Excellent knowledge of the products Gensco sells
  • Understanding of Gensco operations, distribution and warehouse operations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Organizational and negotiating skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records
  • Analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Proactive, self-motivated, able to recognize issues and resolve or escalate appropriately

Responsibilities

  • Act as primary company contact for assigned Suppliers
  • Responsible for negotiating cost, terms, freight, and conditions of sale with assigned Suppliers
  • Procure special costs, as needed, to meet competitive situations
  • Analyze and resolve issues arising from warranty, obsolescence, slow moving inventory, packaging, delivery, Customer complaints, and any other problems that may arise in dealing with specific Suppliers
  • Meet company goals of service level, inventory turns, direct ship percentages and Supplier negotiations
  • Regularly review product lines to determine if replenishment is needed
  • Identify overstock, slow mover, non-mover inventory and communicate to Sales/Marketing or local Branch for resolution
  • Manage the inventory of seasonal items using historical data, input from Branch Ops and Sales, and Supplier tools to determine timely orders
  • Communicate new product performance with Branches and key internal Stakeholders
  • Initiate communication on any changes in products, orders, availability, Suppliers, pricing, and services for assigned product lines
  • Routinely solicit and use feedback from the field and other departments regarding changes in Sales or Customer trends
  • Use company marketing and broadcast email, as appropriate, to internally publish important information relating to product lines
  • Provide external communication including soliciting and giving information to Suppliers on updates, people changes, competition, and market changes or issues
  • Utilize written communication skills to communicate with internal and external Stakeholders
  • Set up of new Suppliers
  • Set up new items, updated costs and rebates, maintain the purchasing module including contacts, order points, lead times, and order quantities
  • Update Branch files for new products, Branch correspondence, Supplier information, and catalogs
  • Maintain consistent product descriptions within product lines
