About The Position

The Temperature Control Division of Standard Motor Products has a Buyer position at its Lewisville, Texas location. The Buyer manages and negotiates inventory replenishment for selected aftermarket commodities sourced domestically and internationally, ensuring timely delivery and optimal stock levels. Most supply partners are international. The role analyzes commodity requirements, including preliminary specifications, preferred suppliers, lead times, and needed dates. It issues and monitors purchase orders, maintains order and shipping records, coordinates discrepancy-item disposition and replacement orders, and works with internal departments and suppliers. The Buyer also participates in supplier negotiations, identifies cost-reduction opportunities, and maintains acceptable inventory levels and inventory-turn goals.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree, two or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a high-volume international setting.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, and critical-thinking skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP, CONCATENATE, TRIM, IF statements, calculations, and pivot tables.
Must take an MS Excel skills assessment.

Nice To Haves

CPIM certification preferred.
Knowledge of JD Edwards ERP/MRP systems preferred.

Responsibilities

Analyze commodity requirements, including preliminary specifications, preferred suppliers, lead times, and required dates.
Issue new purchase orders and monitor existing orders to meet business needs.
Use MRP for ordering, expediting, deferring, and canceling orders, and manage inventory replenishment.
Maintain control of orders, revisions, shipping notices, and related documents to ensure accurate records and timely arrivals.
Communicate with internal staff and domestic and international suppliers.
Work with Product Development, Engineering, Receiving Inspection, and Accounts Payable departments across multiple SMP locations.
Coordinate with Product Development and Engineering to select suppliers based on quality, cost, lead time, and service.
Participate in supplier negotiations.
Research and implement opportunities to reduce product and/or service costs.
Maintain acceptable inventory levels and inventory-turn goals.
Coordinate disposition of discrepancy items or materials and issue replacement purchase orders when needed.
