About The Position

A Buyer I is responsible for negotiating long-term and short-term transactions with vendors. They will also plan and incorporate strategic purchasing plans company-wide. They disperse information about purchasing and sales to the necessary members of production, purchasing, and sales teams.

Requirements

  • Degreed in business, accounting, engineering or related field of study; with 2 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficient computer skills required; knowledge of ERP/MRP systems a plus along with Microsoft office products
  • Must be able to remain calm and professional in stressful situations
  • Friendly, courteous, service-oriented, and flexible and enjoy working with a variety of staff
  • Detail-oriented and work effectively under pressure while meeting all applicable deadlines
  • Must be able to work independently and with little direct supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to develop and maintain good internal and external working relationships
  • Detail-oriented, with strong ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of materials, products, and the commodity market in area of specialization
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products
  • Strong organizational skills and follow up/follow through on assigned tasks in timely manner

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate purchasing process with best practices; contribute to the development of efficient supply chain processes.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate and execute material deliveries according to project and production schedules
  • Develop plans for year over year cost savings
  • Communicate effectively with internal customers as well as vendors on any quality and/or part shortage issues; maintain delivery updates in the system on daily basis
  • Work with suppliers and accounts payable through the PO and payment process; resolve issues when necessary
  • Create & maintain appropriate status and supplier performance reporting/report cards for management visibility
  • Resolve disputes arising with supplier concerning quality, price & delivery
  • Maintain high ethical business relationship with suppliers
  • Leverage the tools that reside in the ERP system and activate, plan and execute
  • Reviews requisitions
  • Estimates values according to knowledge of market price
  • Determines method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid
  • Prepares purchase orders or bid requests
  • Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • Maintains procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories
  • Expedites delivery of goods to users if required
  • Review Engineering Changes for accuracy and approval if required
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures
  • Adheres to company quality protocols and processes
  • Perform job duties in an ethical, professional manner which is consistent with the H&S handbook
