About The Position

This Buyer role supports the purchasing function by leading day-to-day procurement activities and ensuring the timely acquisition of goods and services. The position plays a key role in managing supplier relationships, resolving backorder issues, and maintaining supply continuity while working within Workday and other ERP systems. The Buyer collaborates closely with internal stakeholders to understand procurement needs, develop sourcing strategies, and support emergency preparedness and business continuity efforts. Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of procurement, purchasing, or sourcing experience, including procuring goods.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and procurement processes.
  • Strong understanding of purchasing and sourcing best practices.
  • ERP experience, including hands-on use of systems to manage procurement activities.
  • Experience with purchase order creation, order entry, and procurement workflows.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Basic Excel skills, including working with spreadsheets and simple data analysis.
  • Professional email communication skills for clear and courteous correspondence.
  • Strong customer service experience supporting internal or external stakeholders.
  • Experience with backorder management and supply chain continuity planning.
  • Familiarity with emergency preparedness, crisis management, or business continuity planning.
  • Ability to perform accurate data entry related to purchase orders, inventory, and vendor information.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills related to pricing, contracts, or supplier terms.
  • Solid administrative support skills, including organization, documentation, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work effectively with ERP systems such as Workday or similar platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Support the purchasing manager with daily procurement and purchasing activities.
  • Lead purchasing and procurement efforts to ensure timely acquisition of goods and services.
  • Manage sourcing initiatives, including identifying suppliers, obtaining quotes, and evaluating options to meet organizational needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to support reliable supply and favorable terms.
  • Oversee and manage procurement processes from requisition through purchase order creation, approval, and order placement.
  • Create, review, and process purchase orders (POs) accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor open orders and backorders, proactively resolve backorder challenges, and maintain supply continuity.
  • Coordinate closely with vendors to track order status, delivery timelines, and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify procurement needs and develop effective sourcing strategies.
  • Utilize Workday and other ERP systems to manage procurement activities, including data entry, order tracking, and reporting.
  • Perform accurate data entry related to purchase orders, inventory, and supplier information.
  • Support emergency preparedness and business continuity efforts, including hurricane response planning and other crisis-related procurement needs.
  • Assist with supply chain continuity planning to ensure critical goods and services remain available during disruptions.
  • Provide professional email correspondence and communication with suppliers, internal customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Deliver strong customer service to internal departments by responding promptly to inquiries, resolving issues, and providing procurement updates.
  • Support contract and pricing negotiations in collaboration with the purchasing manager or leadership, as needed.
  • Participate in strategic sourcing activities to optimize cost, quality, and supplier performance.
  • Provide guidance and informal leadership within the procurement function, sharing best practices and supporting team members.
  • Maintain accurate administrative records related to purchasing, contracts, vendor files, and inventory.
  • Use Microsoft Office, including basic Excel, to prepare reports, track orders, and manage procurement data.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of procurement processes and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
