About The Position

The Buyer is a critical part of GPI's supply chain and works to develop strong partnerships with its vendor base. Under the direction of the Senior Buyer, the Buyer is assigned an area of accountability to work directly with suppliers scheduling material deliveries to meet the production needs of GPI using a Lean/6S pull system. Buyers are responsible to take action as necessary, following principles and direction by the Supply Chain Manager to ensure a steady appropriate flow of quality material to support production needs. They will perform various supplier evaluations and utilize various reports to maintain the health of the GPI supply chain.

Requirements

  • Prior experience as a production buyer in a manufacturing environment working with MRP systems.
  • Highly driven and self-motivated, with the ability to self-manage daily tasks and make good decisions in support of GPI and Supply Chain goals and direction.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and communicate technical information.
  • Ability to initiate &/or participate in meetings on your own with representatives and senior management of other companies representing GPI and Supply Chain in a professional manner.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) with leaders, suppliers and teammates.
  • Able to balance multiple priorities while maintaining a sense of urgency for each.
  • Detail-oriented and able to follow through with follow-up tasks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Office Suite including advanced Excel.
  • Clear understanding of team dynamics.
  • 18 years of age with a High School Diploma and/or GED.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with Lean / 6S in a manufacturing supply chain.
  • Prior progressive success in supplier management.
  • Lean and Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification is highly preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform supplier evaluations as requested or needed in accordance with company policy and the Quality Management System procedure.
  • Issue purchase orders (PO) as needed to support the needs of the company within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Monitor various exception reports and take move-in and move-out actions as required, including past due POs and purchasing shortages.
  • Monitor inbound freight progress for commodities/suppliers and report delays or concerns.
  • Source vendors as needed and execute supplier agreements.
  • Travel to visit various suppliers or coordinate on-site visits by suppliers as required.
  • Work through material rejection reports (MRR) to evaluate the reason for rejection, identify the supplier involved, and work with both supplier and internal departments to seek appropriate resolution.
  • Create and maintain healthy partnerships with suppliers.
  • Seek to understand and apply Lean/6S into all aspects of Supply Chain Management.
  • Represent the Supply Chain in various meetings both internally and externally.
  • Act as a representative for the Quality Management System.
  • Work with the engineering change notice (ECN) process to assure a smooth transition in the supply chain when the ECN requires a change to a sourced component or material.
  • Comply with all Safety requirements of the position and the facility.
  • Follow the policies outlined in the Employee handbook and the posted Work Rules for GPI and behave in an ethical manner.
