About The Position

Atkore is seeking a Buyer I to join their team in Houston, TX. This role reports to the Production Control Manager and is responsible for advancing supply chain processes and managing daily material replenishment systems to meet customer demands. The position focuses on cost reduction and serves as the plant's subject matter expert for supplier and product qualifications. Experience in lean manufacturing or a business system-based company is considered a plus. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in a business discipline or combination of experience and education.
  • <1 year procurement experience required.
  • Procurement/Supply Chain negotiating experience in an industrial environment required.
  • Proficient with MS OS and general purchasing software solutions.
  • Experience with inventory control programs and a working knowledge of manufacturing equipment and systems.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in time and project management.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and as an individual contributor.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in lean manufacturing or a business system-based company is a plus.
  • Experience with JDE/Oracle strongly preferred.
  • Strong practical skills within a Lean manufacturing environment is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Support on-time customer delivery and meet inventory turn objectives.
  • Solicit competitive proposals, evaluate RFQs, prepare sourcing recommendations, create purchase orders, facilitate changes, and expedite POs.
  • Reconcile pending invoices and update master file records.
  • Maintain proper order processing, including DoA, GL accuracy, and data entry.
  • Participate in strategic sourcing decisions to achieve corporate goals.
  • Outline MRO purchasing activities for team execution.
  • Resolve issues by performing root cause analysis and implementing solutions/preventative actions.
  • Collaborate with plant personnel (Quality, Logistics, Finance, Manufacturing) to optimize pricing, quality, service, and delivery.
  • Develop and monitor standard costs for raw materials.
  • Streamline processes, improve raw material cycle times, and oversee supplier managed inventories.
  • Manage ad hoc projects and reports to support MRP system development and implementation.
  • Manage databases associated with procurement modules.
