About The Position

Fort Bend County is seeking a Buyer I - Purchasing to join their team. This role involves reviewing and processing requisitions, creating purchase orders, managing vendor relationships, and assisting other departments with financial systems and problem-solving. The position also requires tracking budget expenditures, recommending equipment purchases, and ensuring compliance with contract terms. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and communication skills, with a preference for public sector experience.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • One (1) year procurement experience required.
  • Strong computer skills; Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word).
  • Organizational skills; high attention to detail and ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Math and accounting skills.
  • Strong professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.

Nice To Haves

  • Public sector preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Lawson Financial System preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and shops requisitions.
  • Processes requisitions into purchase orders; Reviews and modifies purchase orders.
  • Provides public relations assistance in dealing with vendors and other departments; inputs vendor information.
  • Tracks or monitors budget expenditures; Recommends equipment expenditures.
  • Confirm merchandise ordered is received when applicable.
  • Assists other departments/end users on financial and electronic content management system (ECM); Assists other departments in problem solving.
  • Assists other employees with their duties.
  • Tracks and coordinates problems and resolutions as they relate to contract terms and conditions due to vendor’s failure to meet specification of term contract.
  • Reviews, resolves and investigates buyer messages and AP reconciliation messages in the financial system software.
  • Receives and verifies vendor insurance certificates when applicable.
  • Reviews and processes requests for creation, approval, and distribution through the enterprise content management (ECM) system.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate County managers.
  • Assists with front desk duties.
