Busser at The Warbler Hotel

Progressive HR StrategiesNew Orleans, LA
Onsite

About The Position

The Busser protects the beauty, pace, and readiness of The Warbler's dining room. In the Spanish restaurant, this role turns support work into invisible hospitality: water is refreshed without interruption, tables are reset to exacting standards, and every course leaves behind a clean canvas for the next. The Busser is a sharp observer, a disciplined polisher, and a trusted partner to servers, runners, and the bar.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of restaurant, banquet, café, or hospitality support experience, or a demonstrated aptitude for service.
  • Ability to follow detailed setup standards and work collaboratively in a high-touch dining room.
  • Ability to safely carry trays, racks, and dishware.
  • Fine-dining reset sequence, silent clearing, crumbing, water service, tray handling, and safe bussing practices.
  • Basic awareness of Spanish menu components so dishes and service pieces are never mismatched or removed prematurely.
  • Understanding of allergy cross-contact controls and the importance of separating designated items.
  • Strong pace awareness: knowing when to accelerate a reset and when to preserve the room's calm.
  • Stand and walk for up to 8-10 hours; bend, reach, crouch, and carry trays repeatedly.
  • Lift and carry up to 35 pounds and push or pull racks and bus carts up to [weight per policy].
  • Work around hot plates, wet floors, stairs, noise, cleaning chemicals, and broken-glass hazards.
  • Must be available for lunch and dinner service, weekends, holidays, private events, and occasional café or pool-bar support.
  • Evening close and side-work completion are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Fine-dining, luxury hotel, banquet, or wine-service environment experience.
  • Familiarity with seat numbers, formal coursing, and polished-glass standards.
  • Conversational Spanish or other guest-service language skills.

Responsibilities

  • Set dining-room tables precisely to the restaurant's approved mise en place, including linens, flatware, glassware, napkins, menus, candles, and designated service pieces.
  • Reset tables immediately after departure, inspecting chairs, banquettes, floors, and surrounding presentation before marking the table available.
  • Provide attentive water service, selecting and presenting still or sparkling water according to service sequence and refilling unobtrusively.
  • Crumb tables between savory and dessert courses or at the prescribed point of the meal using the restaurant's approved technique and tools.
  • Clear plates, glassware, and silver only when all guests at the table have finished, unless a guest requests otherwise or the captain directs a different approach.
  • Coordinate with servers and food runners through discreet hand signals, seat numbers, and verbal cues to avoid interrupting conversation or misfiring a course.
  • Polish and inspect flatware, chargers, glassware, and service pieces; remove any item with water spots, chips, fingerprints, bent tines, or damage.
  • Maintain service stations with water, bread-service supplies, napkins, clean trays, polished backup, allergy-designated tools, and bussing equipment.
  • Carry bus tubs, racks, and trays using safe methods; separate glassware, silver, china, recycling, and waste for stewarding.
  • Support bread service, share-plate placement, and selected tableside steps only after training and under dining-room leadership direction.
  • Identify and report spills, broken glass, damaged furniture, temperature discomfort, restroom issues, and guest-recovery opportunities without delay.
  • Assist with café or pool-bar resets as assigned, adapting to outdoor conditions and appropriate serviceware.

  • Compensation: $12.00 to $15.00 per hour, plus tip-pool participation where applicable.
  • Team Members are eligible to receive benefits based on average hours worked each week and advancement opportunities.
