This Project Manager role serves as a technical liaison supporting Janney's Private Client Group, driving technology initiatives geared toward our financial advisors. Working in a Kanban-based delivery model, the Project Manager sits alongside business-side project managers and partners closely with software engineers and business analysts, translating business objectives into clear, well-formed requirements for the development team. The role uses Azure DevOps and AI-assisted tools to streamline requirements gathering and keep delivery moving efficiently. The ideal candidate combines a technical background with financial services knowledge and is comfortable operating at the intersection of business strategy and software delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer/Information Sciences, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of Project Management/Business Analysis experience, ideally supporting financial services or wealth management technology initiatives.
  • Technical background and aptitude, with the ability to work effectively and communicate directly with software engineers.
  • Financial services background strongly encouraged, including familiarity with the needs of financial advisors and wealth management operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven ability to translate business needs into clear technical requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps (or a similar ALM tool) for backlog management, work item tracking, and Kanban/sprint board management.
  • Experience working in a Kanban or other Agile delivery model, partnering with cross-functional software engineering and business analyst teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable facilitating discussions between business and technical teams.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives and competing priorities.
  • Comfortable leveraging AI tools to improve the efficiency of requirements gathering and documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior financial services or brokerage industry experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL a plus.
  • Experience with project tracking tools such as Monday.com a plus.
  • PMP or similar certification a plus.
  • Familiarity with broker-dealer compliance rules and/or Series 7 a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between Private Client Group business stakeholders and business-side project managers, and the software development team.
  • Translate business objectives and requirements from Private Client Group project managers into clear, well-documented, and technically actionable user stories and requirements for developers.
  • Manage and groom the product backlog in Azure DevOps, ensuring work items are prioritized, well defined, and ready for development within a Kanban delivery model.
  • Facilitate Kanban ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, and flow/cycle-time reviews, to maintain visibility into work in progress and throughput.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools to streamline requirements gathering, documentation, and analysis.
  • Partner with software engineers and business analysts throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirements through testing, deployment, and post-implementation support.
  • Lead planning sessions to define project scope, objectives, milestones, and success metrics.
  • Research and evaluate proposed technical solutions in collaboration with both technical and business partners.
  • Track and communicate project status, risks, and progress to business and technology stakeholders.
  • Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis on system issues affecting financial advisors, documenting actionable resolutions.
  • Triage second-level system issues and distribute work items to the development team.
  • Assist with overall project implementation, including rollout planning, communication, and end-user training.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager.
