About The Position

The County of Monterey Probation Department is recruiting to fill a Business Technology Analyst I (BTA I) position. Under general supervision, the BTA I will support the Probation Department with existing business applications as well as with the review, assessment, and installation of future business applications along with daily Probation Department IT functions and duties. The BTA I will support computer business systems and IT infrastructure and services in the Administration, Adult, Juvenile, Youth Center, and Juvenile Hall Divisions. The BTA I will report to the Probation Department Information Systems Manager in the Administration Division. The Eligible List established by this recruitment process may be used County-wide to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis. This classification is part of a flexible series. Incumbents appointed at the lower level of the career series may be promoted up to the higher level of the career series subject to their meeting the employment standards for the higher class and a recommendation for their promotion by the appointing authority.

Requirements

  • Completion of all coursework leading to a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Computer Science, Office Automation or closely related field AND One year of experience analyzing business processes and information systems for Business Technology Analyst I.
  • Possess a valid Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the employee must be able to provide suitable transportation approved by the appointing authority.
  • Successfully pass a background investigation, or a modified background investigation.

  • Some Knowledge of: The uses and limitations of micro, mini and mainframe computer applications
  • The principles and methods of automated records systems management
  • The principles and techniques of automated information entry, storage and retrieval
  • County adopted information technology principles, policies, strategies, and technical architecture statements of direction
  • Communicate with departmental personnel not familiar with data processing and translate their needs into automated office system requirements.
  • Effectively present technical information
  • Analyze basic business problems and develop office automation methodologies
  • Develop a solid understanding of departmental business processes and technology requirements
  • Prioritize and meet project timelines
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing including writing clear, concise and detailed instruction, procedures, and reports

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes current and future departmental business needs and problems in relation to information technology solutions.
  • Analyzed project plans and proposals
  • Evaluates and/or participates in the evaluation of technology products and solutions
  • Ensures that the necessary plans and resources exist to smoothly transition current business processes into the newly automated or updated solutions.
  • Coordinates the development of project schedules and budgets
  • Recommends appropriate information systems solutions
  • Consults with vendors and/or Information Technology Department for technical support
  • Performs and/or coordinates analysis of departmental information systems to ensure applicability with current operating standards, County policies, and legal requirements
