Reporting to the Manager, Business & Systems Analysis Chapter, the Business & Systems Consultant has deep knowledge of a wide variety of business concepts, practices, and procedures as they relate to IT and general insurance operations. They rely on their expertise, experience, and judgment to plan and achieve goals, and to do a variety of tasks. The Business & Systems Consultant conducts needs analysis, writes requirements/user stories, collaborates with others, and supports the team to increase productivity and reduce costs.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate knowledge of business and/or technology platforms or ability to learn about technology and digital products.
  • Experience working with client facing technologies/digital engagement platforms.
  • Curiosity and adoption of emerging technologies
  • Knowledge of Design Thinking principles.
  • Strong understanding of privacy, compliance, control, and security requirements.
  • Skilled in test execution and understanding the outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and simply both complex business and technical concepts.
  • Ability to work and demonstrate cooperation in a matrixed team environment.
  • Experience with data & integration modelling.
  • Excellent multitasking, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous environments.
  • Works as a valued memeber of a strong, collaborative Agile team, partnering closely with Product Owners, developers, QA, architects, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to contribute wherever needed, supporting analysis, testing, documentation, production support, and other team activities to help achieve sprint and release goals.
  • Applies strong knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and embraces a continuous learning mindset, adapting to changing priorities and business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Equisoft solutions, insurance illustration systems, or financial planning/illustration platforms is considered a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with life insurance product configuration, illustration engines, and policy administration systems is an asset.
  • Strong background analyzing system data flows, procedural programming, and SQL for database querying and optimization.
  • University degree in business or technology or equivalent experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive experience as a Business & Systems Analyst with both waterfall and agile methodologies.
  • Experience working with external vendors is an asset.
  • Bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and define user needs and translate them into requirements/epics/user stories/data mapping documents.
  • Analyze and document how systems, processes, procedures, and clients will be impacted by future development with a focus on the links between processes and systems throughout the organization.
  • Create and/or provide comments into internal and external communications and user documentation.
  • Collaborate, review and provide comments on business and technical documentation.
  • Support business on the roll-out of what has been developed with a focus on end-to-end validation.
  • Develops and executes functional, integration, and user acceptance test cases, validates solutions against business requirements, and supports defect triage and resolution.
  • Collaborates with the Product Owner to refine and prioritize the product backlog, clarify requirements, define acceptance criteria, and support sprint planning and backlog grooming.
  • Takes ownership of end-to-end solution delivery, proactively identifying risks, removing blockers, and continuously improving team processes and delivery practices.
  • Supports production issues and post-release validation, working collaboratively across teams to ensure stable, high-quality solutions and an excellent user experience.
