Business Systems Analyst

Raising The VillageToronto, ON
CA$100,000 - CA$120,000Hybrid

About The Position

Raising The Village (RTV) is seeking a Business Systems Analyst to join their team and serve as the connective tissue between technical teams and program stakeholders. This role is crucial for ensuring RTV’s internal platforms, workflows, and data systems are technically coherent, scalable, and aligned with program logic as the Venn platform scales across multiple countries and partner organizations. The Business Systems Analyst will translate business requirements into system-ready specifications, collaborating closely with Business Analysts, the Platform Architect, Data Engineering, MEL, and Applied Learning teams. The Venn platform operates in challenging low-connectivity, resource-constrained environments, requiring specifications that account for offline-first workflows, constrained infrastructure, and program variations across different countries and partner organizations. Within the partnership between the Business Analyst and Business Systems Analyst, the Business Analyst focuses on business requirements definition, while the Business Systems Analyst is responsible for technical specification, system logic, and data design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in systems analysis, technical requirements gathering, or enterprise workflow design.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business and program requirements into structured, buildable technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, system logic, and integration patterns.
  • Working knowledge of data engineering concepts and cloud platforms.
  • Experience writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and process maps using recognized documentation standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent requirements streams and maintain coherence across them.
  • Strong facilitation skills; comfortable leading sessions with diverse stakeholder groups including senior leaders and technical specialists.
  • Experience with Agile delivery frameworks (Scrum, Kanban) and tools such as Jira, ClickUp, or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with multi-tenant platforms, metadata-driven systems, and workflow engines.
  • Experience supporting platforms in international development, nonprofit, or low-connectivity contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Convert BA-defined business requirements into clear, structured technical specifications.
  • Define system logic, data flows, integration points, and edge-case handling.
  • Ensure requirements are feasible, consistent, and aligned with RTV’s architecture.
  • Maintain technical documentation for workflows, catalogues, and platform components.
  • Design and validate data structures, schemas, and relationships.
  • Ensure business rules and operational logic are accurately represented in the system.
  • Collaborate with data teams to ensure pipelines and transformations reflect requirements.
  • Ensure data structures and workflows support offline-first operation in low-connectivity environments.
  • Partner with Business Analysts and business stakeholders to ensure requirements are complete and logically sound.
  • Work with architects to validate alignment with system design and governance.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to clarify requirements and support build feasibility.
  • Map and validate integrations between systems and components.
  • Define API requirements, triggers, and data exchange rules.
  • Identify system dependencies and ensure they are documented and communicated.
  • Define acceptance criteria and test scenarios for engineering teams.
  • Support UAT by validating that the system behaves according to requirements and business rules.
  • Identify defects, gaps, or inconsistencies and work with engineering to resolve them.
  • Ensure system logic is consistent across countries, tenants, and program variations.
  • Maintain change control and documentation standards for catalogues, metadata, and configuration rules.
  • Support scaling by validating system readiness and configuration requirements.
