About The Position

The Business Systems Analyst serves as a key liaison between Underwriting business teams and Technology, translating business needs into practical, scalable system and process solutions. This role supports Commercial P&C underwriting capabilities, including submission intake, triage, clearance, referrals, appetite and rules support, pricing, quote/bind workflows, document handling, data needs, and operational efficiency. The role requires strong business analysis, systems thinking, stakeholder partnership, and hands-on delivery support. This role requires strong involvement in prioritization, backlog refinement, and solution delivery, operating at a focused scale by driving detailed requirements, process analysis, solution documentation, user acceptance testing, implementation support, and continuous improvement for assigned underwriting workflows and platform enhancements. The ideal candidate brings insurance domain knowledge, analytical strength, and the ability to partner effectively with underwriting leaders, business SMEs, product owners, technology teams, architects, engineers, data teams, QA, and delivery leads. The role also requires comfort using modern productivity and AI-enabled tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, and similar technologies to accelerate analysis, documentation, requirements drafting, story writing, and solution exploration while applying sound judgment and governance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst, Senior Business Analyst, Product Analyst, Product Owner, Technical Product Owner, or similar role.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of hands-on experience with insurance platforms such as Solartis, Guidewire, Duck Creek, Majesco, or similar platforms.
  • 2–3 years of experience within E&S insurance, with a focus on underwriting strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with underwriting, policy administration, rating, workflow, document, data, or integration platforms preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with business stakeholders, engineering, architecture, data, QA, and delivery teams to deliver technology solutions.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments required.
  • Experience supporting workflow-driven, platform-based, or operational business solutions preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Commercial P&C insurance and underwriting workflows, including submissions, quoting, binding, renewals, endorsements, referrals, and related operational processes.
  • Strong business analysis skills, including requirements elicitation, process mapping, business rule documentation, gap analysis, and solution validation.
  • Ability to translate business needs into clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, workflow requirements, and test scenarios.
  • Strong systems thinking and solution mindset, with the ability to understand how people, process, data, platforms, and integrations work together.
  • Ability to analyze complex business problems, simplify fragmented processes, and define practical solution paths.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery practices, backlog refinement, sprint execution, and cross-functional product delivery.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work hands-on with delivery teams to clarify requirements, support design decisions, validate solutions, and drive issue resolution.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Power BI, Power Platform, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, and related productivity or AI-enabled tools preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product Owners, Underwriting, Operations, Actuarial, Data, and Technology teams to understand business goals, pain points, process needs, and system enhancement opportunities.
  • Analyze current-state underwriting workflows and define future-state processes that improve usability, consistency, data quality, efficiency, and operational outcomes.
  • Translate business needs into clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, business rules, data needs, and testable solution requirements.
  • Apply systems thinking to evaluate upstream and downstream impacts across people, process, platforms, data, integrations, and operational teams.
  • Identify opportunities for shared workflows, reusable capabilities, process standardization, and scalable solutions across underwriting product lines.
  • Use workflow data, operational metrics, stakeholder feedback, and system usage insights to support prioritization and continuous improvement.
  • Support backlog refinement by drafting and maintaining user stories with clear business context, acceptance criteria, workflow logic, dependencies, and test scenarios.
  • Assist with roadmap, planning, and prioritization discussions by clarifying scope, business value, dependencies, risks, and delivery considerations.
  • Balance near-term enhancements with foundational improvements such as workflow consistency, data integrity, governance, usability, platform performance, and reuse.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and delivery discussions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, QA analysts, data teams, designers, and delivery leads throughout design, build, test, and implementation.
  • Serve as a primary analysis partner for assigned underwriting solution needs, workflows, product lines, and shared underwriting functions.
  • Facilitate discovery sessions, requirements workshops, process mapping discussions, stakeholder reviews, and solution validation sessions.
  • Document current-state and future-state processes, business rules, system interactions, decision points, dependencies, and operational impacts.
  • Help stakeholders evaluate solution options, technical constraints, dependencies, risks, and implementation tradeoffs.
  • Promote an underwriter-centric, AI-enabled mindset by ensuring solutions improve ease of use, automation, workflow efficiency, consistency, and ease of doing business, while maintaining appropriate human oversight.
  • Ensure assigned requirements and user stories are ready for development with sufficient detail, acceptance criteria, business rules, and test conditions.
  • Coordinate and support user acceptance testing with business stakeholders to validate that solutions meet underwriting needs and quality expectations.
  • Review completed work against requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Investigate defects, clarify requirements, resolve questions, and support issue triage during testing and implementation.
  • Provide hands-on support for workflow validation, prototype review, system demonstrations, business readiness, release support, and post-release feedback.
