About The Position

This job may be filled at either the Business Process Analyst I or II level. Utah Retirement Systems (URS) provides retirement benefits for over 250,000 Utah public employees. URS administers eight pension systems and four retirement savings plans, offering financial security. The Business Process Analyst performs technical communications and specialized analysis of business practices, software, and educational materials to ensure accurate and efficient operations within the Employer Services Department and other URS departments.

Requirements

  • Associates degree and two (2) years of experience in retirement systems functions, procedural documentation, process mapping, or technical writing (for Analyst I); or Associates degree and four (4) years of experience (for Analyst II).
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge and ability of computer operations and data control.
  • Working knowledge and ability of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Working knowledge and ability of SQL database.
  • Working knowledge and ability of SharePoint, Visio, and workflow tools.
  • Working knowledge and ability of internal project control principles and methods of application.
  • Working knowledge and ability of electronic records management.
  • Working knowledge of mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Considerable knowledge of analysis of business practices and policies.
  • Considerable knowledge of project management identifying, tracking, documenting, and testing.
  • Considerable knowledge of internal control principles and methods of application, computer operations, and data control.
  • Considerable knowledge of methods and standards for project control and life cycle.
  • Considerable knowledge of records management.
  • Ability to solve a variety of problems relating to account information.
  • Knowledge of principles and theories of retirement plans (Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution plans).
  • Knowledge of State and federal laws governing qualifications and eligibility requirements for retirement programs in Utah.
  • Basic understanding of the organization’s retirement business needs and data challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills: read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Present information to top management and/or public groups.
  • Knowledge of documentation procedures.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with professionals, executives, department heads, coworkers, and the public.
  • Ability to research, analyze, resolve, and document processes.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in needs analysis and facilitates solutions for account records and software applications/modifications for external and internal customers.
  • Acts as a liaison between business contacts, customers, technology teams, and operational groups to resolve technical issues.
  • Evaluates, tests, and validates new applications and procedures, providing feedback on services or software issues.
  • Participates in resolving technical issues related to data processing program integration.
  • Recommends implementation and modifications to programs and workflows for data management efficiency and accuracy.
  • Documents, reviews, extracts, and edits requirements, specifications, and business policies and procedures.
  • Composes and updates departmental documentation related to legislative, administrative, and URS board actions.
  • Leads projects as assigned.
  • Executes and monitors assigned change requests.
  • Composes correspondence to employers and members.
  • Encourages effective information sharing and processing by proposing procedural updates.
  • Coordinates changes with Employer Services managers and personnel from other URS departments.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
