About The Position

The Business Operations Technician – HR acts as the front-line for customer service and provides front desk coverage as their primary job responsibility. They also work closely with the HR Coordinator to facilitate MIP’s HR functions that support the full employee lifecycle from talent acquisition through offboarding. Due to MIP’s $25M+ research portfolio, the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology has approximately 600 employees at any time with continuous hiring and offboarding as research projects begin and end. This position is part of the MIP administrative team, providing guidance to the department and administrative team on HR guidelines, methodologies, and processes. This is an in-person position that will spend time at the Microbiology and Pathology buildings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an institution of higher education in Human Resources or a related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated experience with customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail as well as written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as primary coverage for front desks in Microbiology and Pathology. This position will be expected to spend time at each location, act as building proctor, and assist with customer service at the front desks to help students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist with HR duties including hiring, onboarding, reappointments, job changes, offboarding, and terminations.
  • Manage hourly payroll, non-exempt monthly hours, leave, and other payroll responsibilities.
  • Work with faculty on graduate student assignments, including complex training grant appointments.
  • Track postdoctoral leave requests and balances in a separate departmental system.
  • Other duties as assigned.
