About The Position

The Business Operations Manager is responsible for working with department leadership on a daily basis to manage and improve day-to-day department operations. With a focus on daily operational performance, the Business Operations Manager will work directly with leadership to establish the appropriate priorities, facilitate issue identification and resolution internally and across departments, establish goals for performance improvement, and monitor trends in key performance indicators. Designs and recommends processes, systems, procedures and operational changes to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Assists with resource management for staffing and appropriate utilization of external resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in management or field of assigned specialty
  • three (3) plus years’ experience in Finance, Business, Consulting, Healthcare Administration, Operations Improvement, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Works on a daily basis with department management to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the department.
  • Manages departmental operational improvement initiatives; including change management plans.
  • Assists with identifying operational problems and inefficiencies, developing and evaluating alternatives and improvements, selecting the optimal improvement, and establishing implementation plans.
  • Understands needs of department staff, physicians, and patients and collaborates with departmental management to support needs.
  • Consistently researches and facilitates implementation of leading practices within the department.
  • Responsible for department leadership development and staff engagement through operational improvement initiatives.
  • May participate on planning task forces to provide specific functional input.
  • Assists with the development of functional or departmental goals.
  • Develops and maintains cooperative relationship with physicians within department to ensure smooth interactions and access to hospital services.
  • Identifies service gaps between physician practices and department services; then implements resolution.
  • May work with Medical Staff to ensure physician involvement relative to specific departmental function.
  • Works to achieve the capital and operating budget objectives.
  • Monitors and controls departmental budget and authorizes budgeted expenditures in accordance with the approved budget and hospital fiscal policy.
  • Determines human resource needs and develops or assists in the development of programs to maintain and improve the quality and efficiency of the assigned department.
  • Assists department leadership with recruiting and evaluating of the department management team (i.e., Supervisor, Coordinators, etc) to assure that department is staffed with individuals who reflect behavior and performance consistent with the hospital's Mission and Values statement.
  • Assists department leadership with developing a staffing plan that meets the approved budget.
  • Mentors individuals and identifies opportunities for leadership development.
  • Communicates and coordinates with the department and services on a daily basis to provide efficient quality services.
  • Advises Director of systems problems which negatively impact or prevent the effective operation of their department.
  • Communicates regularly with departmental staff to keep them abreast of information which will assist in the safe and effective performance of their jobs and to create an understanding of hospital‑wide performance and direction.
  • Integrates departmental services with the hospital's primary functions.
  • Coordinates and integrates services within department and with other departments.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to guide and support the provision of services.
  • Continuously assesses and improves departmental performance.
  • Recommends space and other resources needed by the department.
  • Participates in selecting outside sources for needed services.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to appropriate person(s).
  • Other duties as assigned by supervision.
