About The Position

This position will work with the SPAO Pre-Award Research and Support Office that will work with a mix of departments in the School of Medicine. The primary purpose or focus of this position is to manage the Department/Center’s pre-award processes for all sponsored research activities, which includes the full application, maintaining existing filing systems, both electronic and hard-copy, updating existing databases and advising faculty, fellows and students in regards to the rules and regulations for multiple agencies, e.g., NIH , ACS , AHA , etc. This position will also provide financial and operational management information as needed to the Director of Research Administration. The selected candidate will maintain a high level of independent decision making authority and responsibility and will work closely with the Director to maintain crucial support functions for the Administrative office and or departments. Such functions include but are not assisting with post award grant management, compiling detailed budgets; regular communication with key University departments (HR, OSR , Provost, Dean, etc.). The position should possess a demonstrated knowledge of the university’s business functions, administrative offices, departments and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, high-level officials, and faculty.
  • Operational knowledge and/or familiarity with scientific terminology.
  • Excellent command of MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
  • Considerable experience with office management and administrative practices, techniques, and technology.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making ability.
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion dealing with top-level, proprietary, and confidential information.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the university’s business functions, administrative offices, departments, and federal regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with grants and contracts.
  • Ability to prepare detailed financial reports and budgets in compliance with applicable University policies and procedures and/or sponsoring agencies.
  • Extensive knowledge of university financial accounting, HR, and administrative systems.
  • Knowledge of NIH, NSF, DOD, and other awarding agency regulations and requirements, as well as RAMSeS, Connect Carolina, eRA Commons, and other related systems.
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification.
