About The Position

The UNC Department of Dermatology provides medical and surgical care to patients with conditions that affect the skin, hair, nails, and membranes. We offer superb adult and pediatric medical and surgical/laser services, Mohs surgery, and dermatopathology. We are committed to the health care of all people of our state and beyond, including service to underserved populations. We teach and train students, residents, and fellows with a rigorous curriculum that prepares the highly skilled dermatologists of the future. We have vibrant basic science and clinical research programs with several NIH -funded investigators, with special expertise in autoimmunity, epidermal cell biology, and skin cancers. The Business Officer position administers and manages operational duties for the Department of Dermatology. These duties encompass making sure all clinics and labs run smoothly, efficiently, safely, and in compliance with healthcare standards. This position is responsible for reviewing and monitoring operational data for accuracy, identifying issues, and ensuring compliance with institutional policies and regulations. The role serves as a key operational resource within the Department of Dermatology Business Office, supporting onboarding and training of new employees and coordinating departmental administrative processes. The position works closely with the department’s Associate Chair for Administration, Director of Nursing, and other department leadership to assess operational needs, monitor resource utilization, and support planning for departmental activities and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with business operations, program management, or related business area.
  • Thorough knowledge of budgeting practices.
  • Experience interpreting policies, rules and regulations in a research environment.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and organize multiple duties and work independently to perform the requirements of the position.
  • Basic knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and cost control and expense management.
  • Ability to create and analyze financial reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication ability.
  • High attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of NIH and other awarding agency regulations and requirements.
  • Experience in an academic/university and/or healthcare setting.
  • Experience working in departmental research administration with pre-award and post-award responsibilities.
