About The Position

Inspire students to develop their storytelling abilities, technical proficiency, and critical thinking skills through the medium of film and digital media. This role involves managing the video production lab, overseeing equipment inventory, and leading a curriculum that bridges the gap between artistic expression and industry-standard technical workflows. The teacher will be responsible for delivering state-approved courses, conducting advisory committee meetings, advising student organizations like BPA or DECA, and attending various leadership conferences and summits. Additionally, the role requires developing engaging lesson plans, instructing students on the use of professional equipment and software, implementing assessment strategies, maintaining equipment, enforcing safety standards, managing budgets, advising student media, facilitating showcasing of student work, and collaborating with other departments.

Requirements

  • Business education or Computer Science Teacher Certification.
  • Experience in video production preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain CareerTech Certification - participation in BMITE Teacher Academy
  • Offer state-approved courses and provide students with approved syllabi
  • Provide end-of-instruction tests as outlined in state-approved syllabi
  • Conduct at least one Advisory Committee meeting per year
  • Advise and maintain an active Business Professionals of America (BPA) or Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) chapter
  • Attend Fall and State Leadership Conference
  • Submit all CareerTech reports by established due date
  • Attend OK Summit annually
  • See professional development that aligns with courses taught
  • Align curriculum with local technology center on occupational outcomes for students
  • Prepare for 5-year program evaluation as scheduled

  • Develop Engaging Lesson Plans: Create and deliver a comprehensive, standards-based curriculum covering pre-production (scriptwriting, storyboarding), production (cinematography, lighting, audio), and post-production (editing, color grading, visual effects).
  • Skill Development: Instruct students in the proper use of professional-grade cameras, audio equipment, lighting rigs, and studio management.
  • Software Proficiency: Teach industry-standard editing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro).
  • Assessment: Implement diverse assessment strategies, including project-based learning, portfolio reviews, critiques, and written exams.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the organization, maintenance, and checkout systems for all department cameras, lenses, microphones, and computer hardware.
  • Safety Standards: Establish and enforce safety protocols for the studio and field shoots.
  • Resource Management: Manage budget requests for software licenses, equipment upgrades, and studio consumables.
  • Student Media: Advise the school’s media club, film festival committee, or video broadcast production team.
  • Showcasing Work: Facilitate opportunities for students to submit work to local or national film festivals, competitions, and internal school events.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Theater, Graphic Design, Journalism) to support interdisciplinary projects.
