About The Position

The Business Lending Officer is responsible for originating and managing the Credit Union's portfolio of commercial loans. The primary objective is to maintain and increase the asset quality of the portfolio and to develop new and existing business relationships. This role involves taking applications for commercial loans, reviewing member financial conditions, assessing repayment ability, completing loan documentation, and closing loans. The officer will also focus on developing lending and deposit business by calling on existing clients and prospects to expand the Credit Union's client base. Additionally, the role includes monitoring the existing loan portfolio to ensure a high-quality asset base, maintaining up-to-date member files with financial statements and loan documentation, assisting in the collection of past due loans, and addressing member questions and concerns related to business loans. Other job-related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Five years to ten years of similar or related experience.
  • A college degree.
  • Experience in analyzing business financial statements and assessing the viability of businesses.
  • Excellent communication and PR skills.
  • Ability to use related software required.
  • The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust.
  • Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Takes applications for commercial loan business.
  • Reviews member financial condition and assesses the member's ability to re-pay the loan.
  • Completes or directs completion of all loan documents and closes loans.
  • Develops lending and deposit business for the Credit Union.
  • Calls on clients to expand existing business; calls on prospects seeking opportunities to expand the Credit Union's client base.
  • Monitors existing loan portfolio to maintain a high-quality asset base.
  • Maintains up-to-date member files including current balance sheets, profit & loss statements, cash flow projections and all loan documentation.
  • Assists in collection of past due loans.
  • Assists members with any business loan-related questions and concerns.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
