About The Position

Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for a Business Intelligence Systems Analyst. The Business Intelligence Systems Analyst (BISA) supports the College’s Institutional Research function in reporting and dataset development. The Analyst’s primary responsibility is to write code to extract data, either on an ad hoc basis, or as fully developed end-user reports. Additional responsibilities include analysis of reporting requirements, development and maintenance of external datasets, data forensic/integrity analysis, development of report specifications, extracting data for state and federal reports, development, and maintenance of extract, transform, load (ETL) processes, and development and maintenance of dashboards, data visualizations, and other business intelligence tools. The Business Intelligence Systems Analyst collaborates with staff from the Institutional Research to determine end-user needs and collaborates with staff from the Information Technology Services department to translate and apply those needs within the ERP system. This position typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in information technology and/or institutional research. However, HFC recognizes that there are alternative career paths in which candidates may gain the expertise and ability to perform the essential duties. Education, experience, and training that demonstrates proficiency and the ability to perform the essential duties will be evaluated for equivalency to the education, competencies, and experience qualifications listed below.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in information technology and/or institutional research.
  • Knowledge of systems analysis and administrative IT systems (ERP).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the incorporation of multiple information systems.
  • Mastery of one or more computer programming languages.
  • Knowledge of SQL and relational database management systems, relational data analysis and business intelligence reporting.
  • Ability to develop and document information processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to use complex analytic judgment and ingenuity to plan and perform difficult work where only general methods may be available.
  • Demonstrated ability to create new processes and procedures where existing methods do not exist.
  • Strong desire to work with highly complicated technical projects and problems which require exceptional judgment, considerable ingenuity, and initiative in dealing with factors not easily evaluated.
  • Deductive and inductive reasoning skills to develop innovative ways to acquire and manage data, improve analysis, and streamline recurring studies for optimal efficiency.
  • Ability to develop, evaluate, enhance, and/or implement quality improvement practices, processes, procedures, or policies that have an impact on operations.

Responsibilities

  • Write code to extract data from the college’s ERP and other data sources based on customer-driven report specifications.
  • Extract data for state and federal reports.
  • Develop and maintain extract, transform, load (ETL) processes.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, data visualizations, and other business intelligence tools.
  • Conduct data forensic analyses and monitor the overall integrity of data, complying with state and federal requirements and taking appropriate steps to correct data discrepancies when noted.
  • Other duties related to institutional research and reporting as assigned and qualified to perform.
