About The Position

TrendAI™, the global AI security leader and enterprise business unit of Trend Micro, is seeking an early-career Business Intelligence Engineer to turn product, operational, and security data into reliable, decision-ready insights. The role offers close mentorship from experienced data and analytics engineers while the employee builds a foundation in BI engineering. The engineer will help develop data models, pipelines, dashboards, and reports that business stakeholders rely on, while learning how data is structured and flows from source systems to reporting.

Requirements

  • Experience in computer science, data science, statistics, information systems, business analytics, or a related field.
  • Working proficiency in SQL, including joins, aggregations, and window functions.
  • Understanding of core data modeling concepts such as dimensional modeling and star schemas, acquired through coursework, projects, or internships.
  • Familiarity with at least one data visualization tool.
  • Ability to verify outputs against independent sources and explain how the work was checked.
  • Comfort working with poorly documented or changing source systems, including inspecting web application behavior or undocumented APIs.
  • Experience using AI tools in analysis work while independently validating their output.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain data findings to non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship or project experience building dashboards, reports, or data pipelines.
  • Python scripting for data extraction, validation, or automation.
  • Exposure to data quality checks, testing, or audit-trail practices.
  • Exposure to cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift, or transformation tools such as dbt or Airflow.
  • Interest in cybersecurity, cloud, or AI products and the data they generate.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain SQL queries, data models, and transformations that power dashboards and recurring reports.
  • Build and maintain repeatable, scripted data extraction and transformation pipelines that can be rerun and audited.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and reports for business stakeholders.
  • Translate business questions into technical requirements in collaboration with analysts, engineers, and product partners.
  • Reconcile data across sources and document discrepancies.
  • Validate data accuracy, investigate discrepancies, and monitor data quality over time.
  • Flag missing or failed data as unknown rather than reporting it as a confirmed zero or absence.
  • Record data provenance, metric definitions, and confidence levels so stakeholders can distinguish verified figures from inferred ones.
  • Test pipelines under realistic conditions, including volume, rate limits, and source failures.
  • Support ad hoc analysis requests and help prioritize them alongside planned work.
  • Contribute to team standards for code review, version control, and documentation.
  • Develop skills toward owning datasets end to end.
  • Proactively communicate with business stakeholders or request owners to ensure outcomes are delivered on time and to the expected quality.
