About The Position

We are looking for a BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE ANALYST III - POPULATION HEALTH who can help shape our vision and support our mission. This role serves as the primary point of contact for department data requests, working with multiple departments to gather information and representing the Population Health team in meetings where new data requests are reviewed. The analyst will act as an integrated line of business team member, ensuring information needs are understood, complete specifications are identified, and the appropriate analysis, research, report, or other support is identified to address those needs. They will analyze and document requirements through research, data gathering, and brainstorming, and design and document customer reporting and analytic requests by defining, creating, evaluating, and selecting alternatives. Key considerations in the selection process include alignment with Colorado Access, Population Health Analysis, and Line of Business strategic plans, as well as business problems, opportunities, operational efficiency, and process improvement. Techniques used in analysis and design include Report Mockups and Analytical Project Design. The role involves transforming complex Population Health requests into useful products with actionable outcomes, developing and updating dynamic reports in Power BI, and presenting report results to Senior Management. The analyst will identify actionable issues through data interpretation and research, provide summaries of trends and observations, and apply advanced data analysis and statistical techniques. They will validate that output meets Line of Business needs, partner with Line of Business Directors to identify areas for further analysis, and utilize a variety of software applications and data sources to develop methodologies for the Population Health department. This includes actively developing new tools and system enhancements, troubleshooting data issues, and seeking out and resolving data quality issues. Participation in available training programs and maintaining an individual training/education strategy is also expected. Specific elements of the Company’s Strategic Plan will be identified as focus areas and included as position responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health or health care related area, health informatics, data analytics, or statistics.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and/or education may substitute with a preference for four years progressive relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in public health or healthcare data related field.
  • At least four years of SQL experience.
  • Significant and demonstrated experience with advanced data reporting and analysis methods, data management and query tools including the use of Toad, SSMS, SSRS, Power BI, Business Objects, Tableau, Python, or other similar tools required.
  • Experience analyzing healthcare claims, encounter, utilization, or clinical/quality data required.
  • Expert understanding of health benefits, medical terminology, medical procedures, and managed care industry.
  • Expertise with CPT, ICD and other coding systems.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and research ability as evidenced by experience in the identification of requirements and the definition, evaluation, and selection of appropriate solutions to business problems or opportunities.
  • Ability to pivot and respond quickly with complicated ad hoc analyses of claims, membership, and publicly available health data, and other data sources, as needed.

  • Proficient in MS-Office applications (Excel, Access, Word, Power Point).
  • Working knowledge of risk adjustment and stratification methodologies, healthcare quality measures (e.g., HEDIS) and health-related social needs.
  • Ability to integrate clinical and utilization data to identify trends, disparities and opportunities to improve outcomes.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI) and the ability to design dashboards and visual reports that communicate complex findings to diverse audiences, including clinical teams, care coordination staff, community partners, and executive leadership.
  • A valid driver's license and proof of current auto insurance will be required for any position requiring driving.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with population health analytics, risk stratification, or value-based care reporting preferred.
  • Exposure to predictive analytics is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies actionable issues through data interpretation and research.
  • Provides summary of trends, observations, and actionable items on complex reporting issues and development reports.
  • Applies advanced data analysis and statistical techniques to answer any number of complex data questions and initiatives.
  • Validates that output meets Line of Business needs.
  • Partners with Line of Business Directors to “dig deeper” into output and identifies areas of further analysis.
  • Utilizes a variety of software applications and data sources to develop methodologies for the Population Health department.
  • Actively develops new tools and system enhancements, troubleshoots and solves data issues.
  • Seeks out, identifies, documents, and initiates resolutions to data quality issues that are discovered during report and analysis development.
  • Participates in available training programs and maintains an individual training/education strategy with immediate supervisor.
  • In coordination with Department management, specific elements of the Company’s Strategic Plan will be identified as focus areas for this position and will be included as position responsibilities.
