The position requires assessing the eligibility of corporate foreign national employees for various visa statuses, preparing petitions and applications, drafting legal documents, and conducting research. Proactive and organized communication with clients is essential, as is partnering with colleagues to resolve issues and share information. The role includes supervising and mentoring junior Associates and staff, sharing immigration knowledge, and seeking opportunities to improve quality and efficiency. A willingness to learn and implement guidance, along with accurate use of firm technology, is expected. Associates will also contribute to team meetings and ensure compliance with firm standards and policies.

Requirements

  • U.S. JD or LLM required
  • Member of a US State bar or Washington DC bar association
  • 2-3 years of experience at Associate level
  • Expanded practical understanding of immigration law
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to proofread documents, draft fluent prose, and avoid grammatical mistakes without the aid of AI engines

Responsibilities

  • Develop an expert-level understanding of your client base and the industries you support as well as the firm’s practice areas and services provided.
  • Develop case strategies, including researching, drafting, reviewing, counseling clients and triaging initiations.
  • Identify and solve escalations and areas of underperformance.
  • Regularly communicate with clients and foreign nationals regarding procedural, case processing issues, and case strategy.
  • Support clients in immigration program management and compliance.
  • Assess eligibility of corporate foreign national employees for non-immigrant and immigrant visa status.
  • Work with client global mobility personnel to prepare petitions and applications for submission to government agencies for non-immigrant and immigrant foreign national employees.
  • Draft and prepare letters and legal documents, typically based on established precedents.
  • Conduct research to support client requests and projects.
  • Proactively communicate with clients, within SLAs/team protocols and with a precise, efficient, thoughtful, and organized response.
  • Partner with colleagues to resolve client issues, share information, and support client projects.
  • Directly or indirectly supervise junior Associates and other staff, providing mentoring and coaching while proactively sharing immigration knowledge and expertise.
  • Regularly seek out and implement opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and standardization with processes, products, or services.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and effectively implement guidance and direction offered by supervisors and experienced colleagues.
  • Use firm technology accurately and in line with team and client protocols, ensuring accurate and complete data is entered.
  • Actively contribute to team meetings and firmwide activities.
  • Ensure self and team follow documented firm standards and policy to mitigate risk and ensure regulatory, operational and client compliance.
