About The Position

The Hill, a division of Nexstar Media Group, is seeking a Business Editor to join its newsroom. This role will oversee The Hill’s business and policy coverage, collaborating with reporters on topics such as taxes, finance, technology, and healthcare. The editor will be responsible for the business section in The Hill's print version and will significantly contribute to the annual top lobbyists lists. Daily tasks include generating story and newsletter ideas, and refining non-partisan content with a focus on business and politics, in collaboration with other reporters and editors. The position is full-time and based in Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate possesses a strong work ethic, excellent time-management skills, and the ability to write and edit compelling headlines and copy. A background in reporting or editing at a national media company, a high tolerance for rapidly changing news, a keen interest in differentiating The Hill's content, and agility in task-switching are highly valued.

Requirements

Excellent knowledge of political & policy-oriented news, closely tracking our competitors' work.
Strong attention to detail and comfortable suggesting edits both big and small.
Committed to a "whole team" approach utilizing your knowledge and skills and those of others.
A bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with SEO, analytics tools preferred.
Experience working with online publishing platforms a plus.

Responsibilities

Oversee several reporters who contribute regularly to our business section.
Edit articles for clarity, accuracy, style, grammar and adherence to The Hill's editorial standards.
Ensure the business section of our print issue is plotted out and filled.
Pitch story and newsletter ideas, assist in front-line editing.
Help create our top lobbyist list.
