About The Position

Harrison Western was founded in 1968 and has provided superior design and construction services to the geotechnical heavy civil, mining, and tunneling industries for over 50 years, as well as providing geotechnical and other unique services to civil projects. Additionally, Underground Infrastructure Technologies, LLC (UIT), a division of Harrison Western, is a full-service utility contractor specializing in trenchless technologies. UIT performs wet and dry utility installations utilizing both trenchless technologies and open cut excavation to complete projects, large or small in multiple geographic markets. Headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado, we have completed over $2 billion in mining and construction development projects that range geographically from the Arctic to the Andes. Job Summary: The Business Development Project Engineer provides support to Senior Project Development Manager primarily in Neveda, Arizona, California and Utah. This position will involve significant travel to meet and interact with clients, travel to industry functions, attend jobsite visits as well as other related project development travel. In addition, you will be expected to work collaboratively under the direction of the Senior Project Development Manager and Manager of Preconstruction Services and keep them updated with your contacts and potential projects on an ongoing basis and work within the company structure to strategically attain civil projects that benefit the Company. The position will provide support to marketing, developing, and proposing on projects with strategic significance and other clients based on a strategy and focus that you develop in coordination with the Senior Project Development Manager and Manager of Preconstruction Services in order to gain geotechnical and heavy civil construction project contracts for HW. You will report to Manager of Preconstruction Services. As stated above, you will be expected to travel extensively as part of this role. Percent travel should be expected to be 50-75% of your time. When not traveling position will be remotely based in one of the following locations: Arizona, California, Neveda or Utah.

Requirements

  • 2 – 4 years of engineering experience/construction experience and/or mining experience
  • 3 – 5 years of project construction experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mining, construction management, geology or related field
  • Ability to travel and be present at different jobsites throughout the target geographical area or as needed is required
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • Provides more advanced administrative support throughout the preconstruction process to ensure to meet clients’ needs, proposal deadlines, responsible pricing, etc.
  • May assist Estimating department in plan take offs, specification review, cost gathering, preliminary design, preparation of estimates and proposals
  • Provides interpretation of job/project plans and specifications and resolves questions as they arise with input from the preconstruction team
  • Has advanced understanding and knowledge of client requirements, specifications, construction documents, subcontractors and material suppliers
  • Assists in determining pricing, design and means and methods options
  • Engage with subcontractors, vendors, material suppliers, general contractors, owners to develop comprehensive proposals and pricing
  • Familiar with the unique aspects of the job and properly establish and maintain appropriate document control
  • Performs archive filing, historical cost data gathering, market and pricing research
  • Performs project close-out activities
  • Attend marketing and industry events to meet and collaborate with clients.
  • Actively reaches out to future prospective clients
  • Research local bid opportunities and engages with owners, geotechnical engineers and general contractors
  • Supporting and lead responses to IDIQs, RFQs, RFPs, SOQs and other multiple award and alternative delivery pursuits in target geographic area.
