For more information, visit our website at www.teledynemarine.com . Position Overview: The Business Development Manager plays a critical role in shaping the long‑term commercial pipeline. This position focuses on early‑stage engagement with key markets and major customers, identifying future project needs and positioning the organization for success well before formal opportunities emerge. While the role is anchored in Teledyne ODI’s core offerings, it also looks across the wider Teledyne portfolio to introduce complementary technologies and expand the value we deliver under a “One Teledyne” approach. Working further upstream than Senior Account Managers, this role concentrates on long‑horizon opportunities, strategic alignment, and building the foundation for multi-year growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science for Engineering or equivalent
  • 3-6 years of experience in engineering or related technical field
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in fast paced environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 programs (Word, Project, Outlook, Excel, etc.).
  • Goal-oriented team player
  • High level of personal and technical integrity
  • Initiative of a self-starter who works well without direct or close supervision and can create an environment infused with energy and enthusiasm
  • Effective communicator, who successfully interacts with internal customers, external customers, and all levels of the client organization (especially senior management) as required
  • Exceptional follow-through and superior organizational skills
  • Ability to develop technical presentations and present information effectively to customers
  • Due to the type of work at the facility and certain access restrictions, successful applicants must be a "US Person" (US Citizens, US Nationals, lawful permanent residents, asylees or refugees).

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Market Development & Long‑Range Growth Identify, analyze, and cultivate long‑horizon opportunities (beyond 12 months) that position Teledyne for future program inclusion and multi‑year revenue growth.
  • Monitor emerging trends in new energy, subsea electrification, autonomous systems, and defense markets to shape the future commercial pipeline.
  • Build strategic visibility with our customer technical authorities, influencers, and program owners to ensure Teledyne is in the best commercial position before tender stages begin.
  • Translate long‑range market intelligence into actionable recommendations for product roadmaps, capability development, and cross‑business opportunities.
  • Work with end-user technical authorities to ensure that needs are met.
  • “One Teledyne” Growth & Cross‑Business Integration Proactively introduce complementary technologies from other Teledyne business units whenever they enhance customer value or strengthen the businesses position.
  • Lead early conversations with customers and end-users about multi‑technology solutions, helping them understand how Teledyne’s combined offerings solve broader system‑level challenges.
  • Partner with internal Teledyne counterparts to develop unified messaging, coordinated engagement strategies, and integrated solution concepts.
  • Identify situations where bundling Teledyne capabilities improves win probability, creates lasting long‑term relationships, or differentiates from competitors.
  • Key Account & Strategic Partner Development Build strong, trust‑based relationships with technical, commercial, and executive stakeholders at strategic customers.
  • Expand account potential by uncovering new applications, future programs, and technology pain points that our product and capability portfolio can provide solutions.
  • Coordinate long‑term account strategies with other Teledyne groups to avoid overlap and ensure seamless customer experience.
  • Major Opportunity Identification & Early Capture Own the earliest stages of the opportunity lifecycle for large projects (> $10M), ensuring Teledyne is positioned well before formal RFQs or tenders are released.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product line management, and proposals teams to define preliminary scope, clarify technical requirements, and understand competitive dynamics.
  • Shape early bid strategy by identifying value drivers, potential differentiators, and key risks/opportunities that influence eventual capture success.
  • Pre‑Award Collaboration & Commercial Support Support the proposals team as opportunities mature by facilitating direct communication between customer engineering teams and Teledyne technical experts.
  • Ensure customer needs, constraints, and expectations are thoroughly understood and incorporated into the bid strategy.
  • Provide technical presentations, training, and application insights to strengthen Teledyne’s positioning during pre‑award phases.
  • Internal Leadership, Alignment & Planning Contribute to long‑range revenue forecasting and strategic account planning to support annual and multi‑year commercial planning cycles.
  • Serve as the internal advocate and subject‑matter point of reference for assigned strategic accounts and markets.
  • Partner with engineering, operations, marketing, and finance to ensure Teledyne is prepared for future customer requirements and market shifts.
  • Ensure lessons learned from early engagement and strategic planning are captured and shared across the organization.
  • Technical & Product Expertise Development Maintain strong working knowledge of Teledyne’s various product lines, including subsea interconnect, fiber‑optic and electrical subsea systems, and the broader Teledyne portfolio.
  • Continuously expand technical and market knowledge through training, industry events, and collaboration with subject‑matter experts.
  • Identify areas where future technology development or product enhancements would strengthen Teledyne’s competitiveness in long‑range opportunities.
