About The Position

At Thorn SDS GmbH, we’ve spent more than 25 years supporting some of Europe’s most exciting Earth observation and space exploration programmes. From spacecraft operations and systems engineering to ground segment operations and specialist training services, we work at the forefront of the space sector. Now, we’re looking for an ambitious and commercially driven Business Development Manager to help accelerate our growth across ESA, EUMETSAT, and the wider German space industry. This is an opportunity to play a key role in a highly respected organisation where your ideas, network, and commercial expertise will directly influence our future success.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of satellite systems, space missions, or space data applications
  • Existing relationships within ESA and/or EUMETSAT, and an established network within the European space ecosystem
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in business development, with a proven track record of success within the space sector
  • Fluent English language skills
  • Willingness to travel within Germany
  • Applicants must already have the right to work in Germany; visa sponsorship is not available for this role

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with or within a prime contractor in the German space industry
  • Bid writing or bid management experience
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building abilities
  • A proactive, structured, and customer-focused approach
  • Ability to translate technical solutions into clear customer value
  • A degree in Engineering, Business, Aerospace, or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Identifying, prioritising, and pursuing new business opportunities within ESA, EUMETSAT, and the wider space sector
  • Supporting Thorn SDS’s expansion across the German space industry
  • Building and maintaining a strong pipeline of opportunities to achieve growth targets
  • Managing the full sales lifecycle — from initial engagement through to negotiation and contract award
  • Maintaining and developing long-term customer and stakeholder relationships
  • Supporting the preparation of bids, proposals, presentations, and commercial offers
  • Representing Thorn SDS at customer meetings, workshops, trade fairs, and industry events
  • Managing sales activities and pipeline reporting through CRM tools
