About The Position

Athena is seeking a dynamic HOCl Business Development Manager to lead our strategic entry into the hypochlorous acid (HOCl) market with a primary focus on livestock applications (e.g., biosecurity, wound care, water treatment, and facility sanitation) and expansion into related sectors like agriculture, horticulture, aquaculture, food processing, and water treatment. The ideal candidate will be a proactive sales leader with expertise in chemical disinfectants or agribusiness, capable of building partnerships, identifying opportunities, and driving sales growth in a niche, high-potential market. This individual will play a pivotal role in positioning Athena as a leader in non-toxic, residue-free solutions for biosecurity and pathogen control.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in sales/business development within agriculture, chemicals, disinfectants, or livestock/animal health industries.
  • Proven track record in B2B sales (e.g., selling biocides, feed additives, or crop protection products to farms, co-ops, or manufacturers).
  • Strong sales acumen: Prospecting, negotiation, closing deals; ability to meet/exceed targets.
  • Technical knowledge: Understanding of HOCl applications (e.g., pest/disease control, water sanitation, wound management in cattle/poultry).
  • Relationship-building: Excellent communication; ability to consult with clients (e.g., farmers, vets) and provide technical support.
  • Analytical: Proficient in CRM (Salesforce), data tools (Excel, Qlik); market research and forecasting.
  • Valid driver’s license; willingness to travel.
  • Knowledge of EPA/USDA regulations for disinfectants.
  • Results-oriented, entrepreneurial mindset; passion for sustainable ag/livestock solutions.
  • Ability to work independently in a startup-like environment while collaborating cross-functionally.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with HOCl or similar oxidants (e.g., adjuvants, bactericides, fungicides) is highly desirable; familiarity with livestock biosecurity or sustainable ag practices essential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a go-to-market strategy for HOCl products, targeting livestock (e.g., dairy, poultry, swine, beef for biosecurity against pathogens like avian flu) and adjacent markets (e.g., crop protection, greenhouse sanitation, aquaculture, food safety).
  • Identify new revenue streams, such as on-site generators, bulk solutions, or partnerships with ag cooperatives, toll blenders, and retailers.
  • Proactively prospect and qualify leads in HOCl applications; pursue new accounts (e.g., farms, veterinary suppliers, ag chemical dealers) while nurturing existing relationships.
  • Achieve sales targets through consultative selling, demonstrating HOCl's benefits (e.g., eco-friendly alternative
  • Build strategic alliances with suppliers, distributors, and key stakeholders (e.g., EPA/USDA compliance experts).
  • Collaborate with internal teams (R&D, operations, marketing) to customize HOCl offerings for livestock wound care, drinking water treatment, or facility deodorization.
  • Attend trade shows (e.g., World Ag Expo, IPPE for poultry) to generate opportunities.
  • Track sales pipelines using CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce); provide weekly/monthly reports on activity, forecasts, and market insights.
  • Monitor competitors and regulatory trends (e.g., EPA approvals for HOCl in ag).
