About The Position

Gerrie Electric is seeking a Business Development Manager to drive new customer acquisition in the Industrial & Machine Builder segment across the Greater Toronto Area. This role is dedicated to opening new accounts and re-engaging underutilized customers, with a primary focus on "new logos." Success in this role requires a hunter mentality—proactively identifying, qualifying, and developing new business opportunities. You'll collaborate closely with internal teams, including Marketing, Product Management, and Automation Specialists, to drive awareness, engagement, and solution adoption.

Requirements

  • Proven success in a business development or hunter-style sales role within the industrial automation, electrical distribution, or manufacturing sectors.
  • Strong ability to prospect, qualify, and convert leads into long-term customers.
  • Experience working with Machine Builders and a solid understanding of automation solutions and industrial technologies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex solutions to technical and business stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems and a data-driven approach to sales pipeline management.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Graduate of a post-secondary program, preferably from a technical program.
  • 3 – 5+ years of experience in the electrical distribution or related business.
  • Proven success in a business development and/or account management role.
  • Strategically minded with strong presentation, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and target high-potential Machine Builder accounts within the assigned territory, leveraging market intelligence, prospecting tools, and internal resources.
  • Develop and execute a structured business development plan, working with Branch and Automation leadership to prioritize strategic accounts and industry segments.
  • Build relationships with key decision-makers, conduct discovery meetings, and position our automation solutions as a competitive advantage.
  • Work closely with the Marketing team to leverage campaigns, events, and digital strategies that drive inbound interest and accelerate sales opportunities.
  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline, track prospecting activities, and document progress in CRM to ensure visibility and alignment with company objectives.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, competitor movements, and emerging technologies to effectively position our offerings.
  • Partner with Product Managers, Automation Specialists, and Vendor Teams to develop compelling value propositions and close deals.
  • Consistently meet or exceed new business development targets, providing regular updates on progress and market insights to leadership.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain positive collaborative relationships with customers.
  • Create and maintain a team atmosphere and ensure employee concerns are resolved promptly.
  • Be able to recommend creative solutions to various issues that may arise.
  • Ensure employees understand and adhere to ISO policies and procedures.
  • Participate in conferences, seminars, and other educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintain and participate in professional networks to enhance your knowledge and skills.
  • Participates on committees and special projects as requested.
