The University of Toronto Scarborough is a place of energy, enthusiasm and passion, committed to inclusive excellence and operating on Indigenous territory. The University of Toronto Scarborough has been a leader in co-operative education and work integrated learning (WIL) for 50 years. The Department of Arts and Science Co-op is responsible for preparing over 4,000 undergraduate students from 58 academic areas for paid co-op work term opportunities and engaging industry partners to provide these terms. The department works closely with academic departments, support services, and employer/community partners to support students in achieving their academic and co-op/integrated learning aspirations, with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Reporting to the Team Lead, External Relations and Industry Partnerships, the Business Development and Marketing Officer plays a strategic role in expanding the visibility, reach, and impact of Arts and Science Co-op (AS Co-op) programs across priority industry sectors. This role takes a planned and data-informed approach to business development, employer acquisition, and sector marketing, driving awareness of co-op talent and programs through targeted outreach strategies, marketing campaigns, and high-impact engagement initiatives. The Officer strengthens the brand presence in key sectors and converts visibility into sustained employer partnerships. The role is accountable for identifying and prospecting new employers across growth industries such as Life Sciences, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, Manufacturing, Technology, and other prioritized sectors. Using labour market intelligence and sector analysis, the incumbent develops targeted market strategies, builds employer pipelines, and advances prospects through the partnership lifecycle. A significant component involves designing and executing integrated marketing initiatives to promote co-op programming and student talent, including online and in-person sector events, content marketing, promotional materials, CRM systems for communications, and tracking campaign performance. The primary goal is to develop, nurture, and expand strong employer relationships that generate high quality, paid, academically relevant co-op work term opportunities, initiating new industry relationships, deepening existing partnerships, and strengthening employer engagement. In consultation with the Team Lead, the Business Development and Marketing Officer develops an annual sector plan with defined targets for employer acquisition, partnership growth, marketing reach, and retention, all aimed at advancing student success and expanding access to meaningful experiential learning opportunities.
