About The Position

Mississippi State University is seeking a Business Coordinator to support budgeting, purchasing, and financial reporting activities that ensure effective management of departmental funds, grants, and operations. The role also includes providing administrative support for projects and training initiatives, maintaining financial records, coordinating vendor and purchasing processes, and assisting with budget preparation to strengthen operational efficiency, compliance and the overall impact of programs and services. Provides administrative support in maintaining a general accounting system for a division, department, or other separately budgeted unit by performing a variety of accounting duties. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department. Department Profile: The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering has 18 on-campus faculty and several adjunct/affiliate faculty off-campus within research centers and government agencies, engaged in teaching, research, and extension. The department is co-administered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Bagley College of Engineering and offers undergraduate (B.S.) and graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) degrees in three distinct program areas: Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Agricultural Engineering Technology and Business. Within these programs, the department has over 500 undergraduates and over 30 graduate students. The J. Charles Lee Agricultural and Biological Engineering Building, includes more than 6,000 square feet of state-of-the-art instructional and research facilities and includes separate labs for sterile tissue culture, biomechanical testing, environmental and agricultural simulation or modeling studies, electronic/robotic design fabrication and testing, fiber processing, GPS/GIS, renewable bio-energy, and student computing resources. Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • 1 year Directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Indicated education is required; no substitutions allowed.
  • When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
  • Knowledge and previous experience using spreadsheet software program.
  • Ability to operate computer keyboard and 10-key electronic calculator.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business.
  • Experience in fund accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile and assist with fiscal administration for the department/unit, including but not limited to budgets, funding, grants, contracts, payroll, employment, travel, and/or purchasing; may assist with fiscal planning, including participating in seeking alternate sources of funding.
  • Maintain an efficient system of receiving, posting, and depositing revenue and receiving, verifying, posting, and processing vouchers for payment of goods and services.
  • Prepare requisitions for purchases; communicate with vendors for prices, bids, and other information.
  • Prepare journal entries to record income, expenditures, interest, fund transfers, encumbrances, etc.
  • Transfer funds between accounts following established guidelines.
  • Prepare various accounting schedules, statements, and reports for monthly and annual reporting.
  • Reconcile division financial records with university accounting records.
  • Gathers data for budget preparation and inventory reports; prepares or assists in the preparation of the annual budget, and procures all supplies, furniture, and office equipment.
  • Maintain files and records in support of accounting data.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
