About The Position

The Idaho SBDC offers a network of six regional centers to serve the needs of Idaho’s small businesses and entrepreneurs. The Idaho SBDC provides professional, no-cost, confidential consulting to businesses across Idaho to help them grow and thrive. This role involves understanding and leading the department within a wide range of business factors and operations, including data analysis and developing, implementing, analyzing, managing, and tracking projects and initiatives. The position requires a recognized subject matter expert who can apply theory into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight. The consultant will independently perform the full range of responsibilities, manage large projects or processes, and analyze problems/issues of diverse scope to determine solutions. The role may involve managing programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources, functioning with a high degree of autonomy and influencing others regarding policies, practices, and procedures.

Requirements

Requires use/operation of the following computer software: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Requires some travel within Southwest’s region 3 counties (Adams, Valley, Washington, Boise, Payette, Gem, Canyon, Ada, Elmore, and Owyhee).
Reliable transportation is required.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must complete internal consultant certification within 6 months of hire.
Excellent interpersonal skills to help clients solve problems.
Knowledge of business management, accounting, marketing, strategic planning and all other business operations.
Effective planning and organization skills.
Ability to lead a team.
Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years experience or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

Master's in Business and five years of experience operating a small business.
Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
Knowledge of resources available to help small businesses, including economic development at the local and state levels.
Skills in consulting, problem-solving, computer literacy, and the ability to read and understand financial statements.

Responsibilities

Works with clients to develop financial pro forma statements, break-even analysis, management structure, organizational development, marketing (including a wide variety of channels and approaches), patents/trademarks, lease agreements, bidding tools, assessment of 8 key business functions, and any other small business issue.
Captures critical client information in the center's MIS system, including contact information, demographics, a summary of each session, and the impact from the session(s).
Assures compliance with the center's customer satisfaction process. Reviews evaluations and develops correction plans as necessary.
Organizes and holds one mentoring session per week: inviting local business professionals to brainstorm ideas to solve clients' problems, summarizing findings, and following up with clients.
Perform other duties as assigned.
