About The Position

The Business Banker executes integrated sales, service, and relationship strategies to support the growth and retention of business customers. This role involves developing new business relationships and cross-marketing services to existing clients through segment-based sales plans to achieve revenue growth targets and maximize operating capabilities and profitability. The position requires compliance with the Secure and Fair Enforcement Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (SAFE Act), including obtaining and maintaining an active record and unique identifier within the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLSR), and meeting associated minimum register standards and continuing education requirements. The Business Banker solicits business relationships including deposits, loans, and treasury services, and develops and refers loan leads for the commercial area. They pursue lending business development activities, including for low- and moderate-income segments, in partnership with Commercial Bankers. The role involves executing integrated sales and relationship strategies aligned with the area business plan to achieve desired revenue and service hurdles, and providing qualified referrals to Treasury and Lending specialists for cross-selling. The Business Banker assists in closing deals across all products, uses sound judgment in qualifying potential customers/deals, and recommends appropriate financial solutions. They partner with other FirstBank Florida departments (e.g., Residential and Commercial Lending, Treasury) to ensure ongoing communication and support client and franchise objectives. Sales initiatives are conducted through telemarketing, direct mail, and external business development. The role ensures effective customer retention and growth through ongoing sales and servicing initiatives, and maintains frequent interaction with centers of influence, diverse industry segments, community leaders, regulators, and senior business contacts. The Business Banker creates local community awareness of the bank's focus on community partnerships and providing multi-product banking solutions to middle-market companies. They ensure the implementation of the Bank’s customer service philosophy for total customer satisfaction, handling customer situations beyond the scope of branch personnel to ensure timely service and achieving branch production goals. The role promotes and services all deposit products, opens various accounts (checking, CDs, IRAs, Business Accounts, Safe Deposit Boxes), and promotes and answers questions regarding lending products. Customer problems and complaints are resolved according to FirstBank Florida's excellent service policy. The Business Banker answers customer questions and assists with needs such as safe deposit boxes, ATM cards, statements, rates, overdrafts, and temporary checks. They assist in implementing operational policy, ensuring transactions comply with federal, state, and bank requirements, and strictly adhere to internal control policies like account opening protocols. They input information to create new account data files and perform maintenance changes on existing accounts (address, title, rate changes). The role acts as a backup/support to Personal Bankers, supports the platform weekend schedule, and participates in after-hours events. They ensure organizational activities comply with all regulatory, legal, and governmental regulations. The Business Banker opens and closes the branch, stays abreast of security policies and procedures, and assists in generating ideas for improving sales/operational issues. They develop, implement, and monitor their own sales and service plans. Other responsibilities include serving on internal committees and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Employee must comply with all requirements related to the Secure and Fair Enforcement Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (SAFE Act) and its corresponding regulations, including, but not limited to, obtain and maintain an active record and a unique identifier within the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLSR), continue to meet said record and associated minimum register standards, including any applicable continuing education courses set forth by the Safe Act.
  • Minimum four-year college degree, or equivalent banking industry experience.
  • Proven knowledge of branch procedures and policies.
  • Effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Understanding of laws, rules and regulations affecting the banking/lending industry.
  • Knowledge of finance and accounting principles necessary to provide lending services.
  • Effective human relations and excellent communication/presentation skills, inclusive ability to negotiate and make presentations.
  • Good written, reading, supervisory, computer, communication and organizational skills.
  • Proven leadership and organizational skills.
  • Able to monitor/motivate/develop the capabilities of subordinates.
  • Must have a sharp, proven business development focus, preferably within a large financial institution.
  • Must be team oriented.
  • Must be able to express a sound opinion, able to agreeably present another viewpoint.
  • A banking certification, and, at least 5 years of experience in a similar job is required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job is required.
  • Active Driver License.

Responsibilities

  • Answer customer questions and assists customers with all needs, such as: Safe Deposit boxes, issuing ATM cards, statements, rates, overdrafts, issue temporary checks, etc.
  • Assist in implementing operational policy, ensuring transactions are processed in compliance with federal, state and bank requirements.
  • Strictly adhere to internal control policies such as the account opening protocols of accurate collection, completion and updating of all required documentation.
  • Input information to create account data file of new accounts.
  • Perform any maintenance changes on existing customer’s account, such changes of address, title or rate changes.
  • Act as a backup/support to Personal Bankers as needed.
