About The Position

The Business Architect will guide leaders through transformation and optimization initiatives to shape organizational strategy, operating models, and capabilities, ensuring alignment between the business and IT. Uses structured methodologies and modeling techniques to clarify strategic intent, define business outcomes, and prioritize investments in people, processes, and technology. Supports the evolution of Enterprise Architecture (EA) services and helps define EA function strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, information systems, computer science, or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in strategy formulation and/or translation, business analysis/analytics, or business architecture, or nine (9) years of any combination of education, experience, and training.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in information systems, computer science, system analysis, or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in both business technology and technology architecture solutions which includes IT products, services, and capabilities.
  • Experience in a higher education environment.

Responsibilities

  • Translates the organization strategy into actionable architecture deliverables (e.g., capability maps, value streams, operating models).
  • Assess disruptive and emerging technologies, and competitive threats or opportunities to inform scenario planning and innovation.
  • Develop and maintain business capability models and value chains aligned with enterprise goals.
  • Create business architecture deliverables that clarify strategic intentions, identify business outcomes, explore implications, impacts and risks.
  • Engages key business stakeholders to identify the organization and technology innovation opportunities that enable and drive the organization’s strategy.
  • Focuses on growing revenue, optimizing costs, and mitigating risks.
  • Works with the organization and IT executives to help describe and understand their business and operating models by making the business model clear and explicit.
  • Helps the organization’s leaders and executives, with design thinking, business modeling, ecosystem modeling, innovation management, IT investment analysis, and operating model design.
  • Develops diagnostic and consumable deliverables such as business and operating models to inform cost-risk-value-strategic alignment assessment of innovation use cases.
  • Seeks ways to drive adoption of new technology and reuse existing technology for enabling business capabilities, value streams and business processes.
  • Research and provides information on emerging technology trends and disruptions and competitors’ practices.
  • Facilitates the development of cross department solutions that combine knowledge of business capabilities, value streams, and business processes.
  • Advises solution architects on solution options, risks, costs versus benefits, and impact on other business capabilities and processes.
  • Collaborates with project and operational delivery teams – in coordination with solution and technical architects — to ensure continuous business architecture informs technology decisions.
  • Participates in development and application of guiding principles, standards and minimal viable architectures through the Enterprise Architecture model.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
