About The Position

The Business Analyst Intern (Financial Systems) will support the design, enhancement, and operation of enterprise financial analytics solutions, with a focus on Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and advanced data modeling. This role is ideal for a technically curious, detail‑oriented student or early‑career professional interested in financial analytics, data engineering, and applied machine learning. The intern will work closely with the Director of Finance and data stakeholders on NJTA financial and operational data pipelines, contributing to end‑to‑end analytics solutions that power executive reporting, forecasting, and decision‑making. This hands‑on role provides exposure to modern data platforms, financial systems, and real‑world analytics use cases in a production enterprise environment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Interest in financial data, analytics, and modern data platforms.
  • Familiarity with Excel; experience with Power BI, SQL, Python, or PySpark is a plus.
  • Exposure to databases, data modeling, or ETL concepts preferred.
  • Ability to learn quickly, manage multiple priorities, and work independently with guidance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of Microsoft Fabric data pipelines, including ingestion, transformation, and validation of financial and operational data.
  • Support NJTA financial analytics workflows, including operation reporting, and variance analysis datasets.
  • Enhance Power BI semantic models, measures, and reports, with an emphasis on accuracy, performance, and usability for business stakeholders.
  • Contribute to machine learning and forecasting initiatives, including time‑series forecasting, trend analysis, and scenario modeling.
  • Perform data quality checks, reconcile source system discrepancies, and document assumptions, logic, and transformations.
  • Assist with schema design, documentation, and data governance best practices within Fabric Lakehouse and semantic models.
  • Help automate recurring analytics and reporting processes to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Participate in exploratory analysis and ad hoc financial modeling to support planning and operational decisions.
  • Collaborate with Finance, IT, and Analytics stakeholders to translate business requirements into reliable data solutions.
  • Support special projects related to analytics modernization, AI readiness, and self‑service reporting enablement.
