About The Position

This position functions as a Customer Service Ambassador for the Municipality of Anchorage and the People Mover system, providing safe, efficient, and quality transportation service to customers. The Bus Operator will transport customers by operating any type of revenue vehicle during regularly scheduled routes and special service routes, adhering to safety rules, state and municipal laws, and route time schedules. Responsibilities include responding to customer inquiries, assisting with information, operating fare collection equipment, mobile display computers, and head signs. The operator must ensure the automatic stop announcement system is functional or manually announce major stops and transfer points. Additionally, they will assist persons with mobility devices, secure mobility devices, and administer People Mover policy and procedure in special circumstances like service interruptions and emergencies. Other required duties as assigned are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of experience as a licensed motor vehicle operator.
  • Must possess a valid State of Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B (or greater) with an Unrestricted Passenger Endorsement, No Air Brake Restriction, and satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • Applicants with a restriction of "L-Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only" are not eligible.
  • OR A valid State of Alaska Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B (or greater) with an Unrestricted Passenger Permit (must obtain passenger endorsement within 30 days of hire), No Air Brake Restriction, and satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • Applicants with a restriction of “L-Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only” are not eligible.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States.
  • Must provide a current copy of the applicant's State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with unrestricted Passenger endorsement or Unrestricted Passenger Permit with no air brake restriction.
  • Must provide a current copy (dated within 30 days from date requested) of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.
  • Must successfully complete a medical physical and functional capacity examination.
  • Must successfully complete a drug test prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice.
  • Must successfully complete a national criminal background investigation.
  • Must provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted.
  • Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested.
  • Must complete a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check.
  • Must complete the Previous Employer Alcohol & Drug Test Information Forms.

  • Assist persons with mobility devices as required and secure mobility devices in accordance with policy.
  • Administer People Mover policy and procedure in special circumstances (e.g., service interruption and emergencies).
  • Perform other required duties as assigned.
