This position is responsible for operating a METRA transit golf cart. Prepares the golf cart for safe operation by conducting pre-trip inspections and checking off the daily safety prevention checklist for both interior and exterior. The operator boards and inspects passengers, drives the golf cart, and maintains daily knowledge of routes. They operate essential equipment, including a Non-CDL vehicle, and assist passengers with disabilities by securing wheelchairs and passengers, and assisting passengers in distress. The operator notifies the dispatcher/supervisor of the golf cart's location and the symptoms of passengers in distress. This role performs duties required by the Office of Homeland Security, assisting customers in safe evacuation from the golf cart, observing, determining, and reporting activities, packages, and substances that are suspicious or out-of-place. The operator uses a common-sense approach when faced with various emergency situations to ensure public/passenger safety and proper golf cart operation. They provide information and directional assistance. The operator issues parking citations, explains violations to citizens, delivers court summons for parking violators, and handles contracts for customers leasing parking spaces in the River Center garage. They maintain knowledge of all city ordinances pertaining to non-moving vehicle violations. Daily inspections of parking garages are performed to determine property damage, needed repairs, and vehicle damage. Reports for needed repairs for city vehicles are submitted, and surveillance cameras for city-owned garages and parking lots are monitored. The operator operates a radio, reports accidents and emergency situations when en route, and assists 911 by reporting inoperative traffic lights. Participation in random and mandatory drug and alcohol testing is required. Annual driver refresher training and defensive driving courses are attended as needed. The operator notifies the dispatcher/supervisor and obtains necessary repairs and maintenance work at each turn-around point, secures the golf cart in case of accident or engine malfunction, and directs traffic around the golf cart as needed. The duties of the supervisor are performed in their absence and when needed. Flexibility with the schedule is required. Other related job duties are assigned as needed.
