About The Position

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking qualified candidates for a Bus Driver position. The SRCE is part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, established to support student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. With approximately 1,166 employees, the SRCE operates 20 schools and pre-primary programs, serving about 5,948 students. Located in northeastern Nova Scotia, the SRCE's jurisdiction covers Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, and Richmond counties.

Requirements

  • Minimum class 2B or 2C license with air brake endorsement
  • Proven ability to deal effectively with students on the bus, gained through experience or SRCE sponsored training program
  • High school completion or equivalent in experience and training
  • Four months driving experience as a professional school bus driver
  • Current First Aid or willing to obtain prior to employment
  • Successful completion of the SRCE sponsored casual bus driver training program, or completion of a recognized professional driver training program.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certification would be considered an asset
  • Commercial Safety College courses or related safety courses would be considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Operate a school bus in accordance with all safety standards as prescribed by the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and in accordance with Strait Regional Centre for Education Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform pre trip inspections at the beginning of each work day.
  • Perform pre trip inspections prior to extra/co-curricular trips.
  • Complete all transportation related forms as required (Hours of Work, Route & Passenger Sheets, Daily Inspection Sheets, etc.).
  • Maintain discipline on school buses and follow Strait Regional Centre for Education policies and procedures of incidents on buses.
  • Report all accidents in accordance with Strait Regional Centre for Education policy and procedure.
  • Keep inside and outside of bus clean in accordance with Strait Regional Centre for Education standards.
  • Reports mechanical problems to the appropriate designate.
  • Operate the school bus in accordance with the route plan and schedule.
  • Attend all Driver In-services provided by the Strait Regional Centre for Education.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
