About The Position

The position of Bus Driver/Substitute Bus Driver is responsible for operating a school bus and other vehicles and perform associated and operational duties in transporting students. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum five (5) years automotive driving experience
  • Good driving record for past five (5) years; Department of Motor Vehicles report will be required
  • Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License
  • Obtain a Washington State School Bus Driver’s authorization prior to regular employment
  • Obtain a Commercial Driver's License prior to regular employment
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Perform 40-pound minimum lift stress test
  • Must be able to successfully pass the bus driver training course, including First Aid
  • Ability to pass Department of Transportation physical
  • Ability to perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
  • Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations
  • Verification of identity and authorization to work in the United States must be completed.
  • Satisfactory results of background checks with prior employers/professional references
  • Satisfactory outcome of a criminal history background check (includes fingerprinting)
  • Satisfactory outcome of sexual misconduct information from prior school district employers
  • Approval by the Bellevue School Board

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience with groups of children
  • Will be required annually to pass all school bus driver requirements as mandated by State and Federal law

Responsibilities

  • Maintain established routes and schedules consistent with safe driving practices and passenger safety.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Fuel, clean and wash bus and report bus/servicing requirements.
  • Establish a positive rapport with passengers, exhibiting friendliness and genuine concern.
  • Enforce passenger conduct standards, reporting infractions as directed.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.
