About The Position

Action Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating pathways to economic stability throughout Southwest Montana. The Bus Assistant role is part of the Butte Head Start program and is a part-time, seasonal, non-exempt position working 24-28 hours per week. This role is crucial in helping children build confidence, skills, and relationships for success in school and life. The Bus Assistant is one of the first smiling faces children see each school day, helping to create a safe, welcoming, and caring environment where preschool children feel secure, supported, and ready to learn. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young children and wants to make a meaningful difference in the community.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work positively with preschool-aged children.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependability and a commitment to child safety.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Safely assist preschool children as they board and exit the Head Start bus.
  • Supervise children during transportation while helping maintain a safe, positive, and respectful environment.
  • Work closely with the bus driver to ensure student safety at all times.
  • Build positive relationships with children and families while representing Action Inc. professionally.
  • Help children begin and end each school day with encouragement, patience, and kindness.
