About The Position

At North Shore Steel, precision begins long before fabrication. As a Burn Table Operator, you will play a critical role in transforming raw steel plate into accurately cut components that serve as the foundation for our customers' projects. Operating a Kinetic K2500 CNC Plasma Cutting System, you will be responsible for safely producing quality parts that meet customer specifications while supporting production schedules and maintaining high standards for accuracy, efficiency, and safety. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in producing quality work, understands the importance of attention to detail, and enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where teamwork and accountability matter.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating CNC plasma metal processing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret production drawings and work orders.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to work with CNC production systems.
  • Ability to safely work around overhead cranes, moving material, and manufacturing equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating Kinetic, Burny, Hypertherm, or similar CNC cutting systems.
  • Experience processing structural steel plate or heavy industrial materials.
  • Experience using overhead cranes and material handling equipment.
  • Familiarity with plate processing, fabrication, or steel service center operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the Kinetic K2500 CNC Plasma Burn Table in accordance with production schedules and work instructions.
  • Review work orders, drawings, and nesting layouts prior to processing material.
  • Verify material grade, dimensions, and heat information match production requirements.
  • Monitor cutting operations to ensure quality, efficiency, and safe operation.
  • Inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy and conformance to specifications.
  • Separate, identify, and organize completed parts for downstream processing.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders.
  • Verify cut quality, edge condition, hole accuracy, and overall dimensional compliance.
  • Identify potential production issues before material is processed.
  • Report quality concerns, equipment issues, or drawing discrepancies to supervision promptly.
  • Maintain accurate part identification and traceability throughout the production process.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor consumables and notify supervision when replacement parts or supplies are needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Assist with troubleshooting minor operational issues.
  • Coordinate material movement with crane operators and other production personnel.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support cross-training efforts and assist in training new team members when requested.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, schedulers, crane operators, and production personnel to maintain workflow.
  • Contribute to a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and teamwork.
