About The Position

The Burn Program Manager coordinates the operational, quality, performance improvement, verification, outreach, and regulatory activities of the UI Health Care Burn Program, Iowa’s only burn center and the state’s tertiary referral resource for specialized burn care, education, prevention, rehabilitation, and recovery services. Working with the Burn Medical Director and multidisciplinary burn team, the manager supports compliance with American Burn Association (ABA) Burn Center Verification standards and maintains readiness for verification and reverification. The role coordinates performance improvement, supports burn registry and quality reporting functions, facilitates statewide outreach and referral development, and advances initiatives intended to improve patient outcomes, access, and program performance. The manager is the primary coordinator for verification readiness, performance improvement, quality oversight, outreach, prevention, education, and multidisciplinary program operations. Registry personnel and data abstraction remain organizationally aligned with the Trauma & Burn Quality Program infrastructure. The manager partners with registry, analytics, quality, and operational leaders to support data integrity, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. The position also oversees human resource functions, including creating roles, supervising performance, and managing burn registry personnel.

Requirements

Master of Science in Nursing degree.
Three years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare operations, quality, program administration, trauma, burn, emergency medicine, surgery, critical care, rehabilitation, or related clinical services.
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary initiatives and managing complex projects.
Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Registered Nurse (RN).
Experience working in a burn center, trauma center, academic medical center, or other highly regulated specialty program.
Experience supporting accreditation, verification, or regulatory compliance activities.
Knowledge of American Burn Association Burn Center Verification standards.
Experience with performance improvement, quality management, registry operations, or healthcare analytics.
Certification in healthcare quality, project management, burn nursing, or a related specialty area.

Responsibilities

Coordinate ongoing readiness activities for ABA Burn Center Verification and reverification.
Maintain documentation, evidence files, standards crosswalks, and compliance records for ABA standards.
Coordinate preparation for verification reviews, site visits, and regulatory assessments.
Monitor compliance with applicable federal, state, institutional, and accreditation requirements, and partner with program leadership to address compliance improvement opportunities.
Coordinate the Burn Program Performance Improvement process and facilitate multidisciplinary review of cases, complications, outcomes, and patient safety events.
Track corrective actions and ensure improvement opportunities are closed; develop and maintain program dashboards and reports.
Collaborate with Quality & Safety teams on organizational quality initiatives.
Coordinate operational activities across the burn care continuum, facilitate multidisciplinary meetings and committees, and assist with annual planning and strategic initiatives.
Support development and maintenance of burn-related policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines; serve as a liaison among clinical departments supporting burn patient care.
Partner with registry and analytics resources to support accurate, timely burn data collection and reporting.
Monitor burn volumes, referral patterns, transfer activity, quality metrics, and patient outcomes; support national benchmarking and burn quality reporting participation.
Prepare reports for program leadership, executive leadership, and external organizations.
Coordinate burn injury prevention and community outreach activities and support educational programs for referring hospitals, EMS agencies, learners, and healthcare professionals.
Assist with statewide referral development, support burn survivor and rehabilitation initiatives, and promote awareness of burn services throughout Iowa and the surrounding region.
Oversee human resource functions, including creating new roles, supervising performance, and managing burn registry personnel.
