The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Bureau of Criminal Investigations Director, who shall be appointed to the rank of Major in our Bureau of Criminal Investigations at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. In accordance with the Code of Virginia, incumbents of this position must complete a Statement of Economic Interests form upon selection and annually thereafter. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to: Provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and mission focused direction to all investigative divisions. Transforms the Agency’s strategic vision and priorities into clear, actionable objectives that drive excellence in criminal investigations, advance public safety, and protect civil liberties. Optimizes systems, resources, and organizational performance to achieve defined outcomes and meet established performance metrics. As a member of executive leadership, the Director serves as a key advisor to the Superintendent. Fosters a commitment to the Agency’s mission and values, cultivating a culture of selflessness, engagement, and awareness, and reinforcing personal accountability, kind feedback, and continuous improvement. Enhances organizational capacity through trust based partnerships and holds responsibility for the readiness and well being of Bureau personnel. Champions organizational excellence by establishing clear expectations, encouraging innovation, and cultivating an environment where people feel valued, empowered, and committed to delivering and supporting consistent, high quality investigative services statewide. Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of cross training programs, desk procedures, and continuity of operations strategies to ensure resilience, adaptability, and seamless service delivery across the Bureau. The employee in this position is aware of and proactive in ensuring a strong internal control environment, including: reducing or communicating potential risks; ensuring data and reports are accurate and reliable; safeguarding Department assets to prevent waste, loss, unauthorized use, or misappropriation; achieving Agency objectives by maximizing efficiency and effectiveness; and consistently adhering to applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
