About The Position

This is a Local 49 Operating Engineer Union position. The operator will be responsible for safely operating bulldozers to clear, grade, and prepare land for roadways and infrastructure. This role requires precision, attention to safety, and the ability to work effectively as part of a construction crew in a fast-paced outdoor environment. This is a seasonal position that generally requires travel through Northern Minnesota and North Dakota with other work locations as assigned. Lodging assistance (generally in the form of a Per Diem) is provided.

Requirements

  • General education, grammar and arithmetic, GED or high school diploma or equivalent
  • Equipment maintenance & operation
  • Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily equipment, walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained.
  • Safely and properly perform maintenance (lubricating, fueling and cleaning) on bulldozer.
  • Safely and properly operate bulldozer
  • Construct drain field and ditches as needed
  • Prepare site for aggregate mining and stockpile millings and other aggregate products for the plants
  • Recover submerged aggregate
  • Cover fabric on job sites
  • Maintain strong customer relations with managers, supervisors, pit owners, co-workers and other customers
  • Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with people under high stress situations.
  • Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous/respectful of others.
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.).
  • Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.
  • Ensure MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
